Does anyone have experience with photo hosting web sites please?

I have a bunch of photos I want to post up someplace and I'm looking for the best way to go about it. Currently I'm thinking I have some images that are for public consumption and some that are for family/friends viewing only, so I'd like to have some sort of private gallery function. I'm also not looking to spend a huge amount of money as this is a hobby and not a career, unless I have a massive overnight talent injection - not likely

I have thought of putting the public stuff up on flickr/picassa and running a photo gallery app on a private web server for the family/friends stuff. I already have the web server, so I guess a second question is does anyone have any experience/thoughts on Linux based photo gallery apps please?

On your linux box you'll have to run apache web server with php/mysql database but it wont be secure. You could just host a html/flash slideshow which are easy to make (wizard in flash) but again it wont be restricted.

This product (I think do some research) is an option if you want to restrict access to the photos http://www.zshare.net/. There would be lots of other products around like this perhaps?

I would say to setup mysql and install wordpress then install nextgen gallery as a plugin.

MYSQL Installation = Dunno never done it
Wordpress Install = 5 minutes max
Nextgen gallery = 1 minute

If you want to take a look at a simple nextgen gallery, head to www.truckandplant.com.au and click on any of the photos. Lightbox is standard but you can do other cool shit.
