Didnt think Nikon made an 85mm macro? They did an old 55 MF, a newer 60 AF, a new 60afs, a new one for dx (not sure of focal lenght, is that the one you are talking about?), the 105 and 105 vr and the very nice 200mm. the tamoron is a ff lens. I seriously can not fault it and doubt you could notice any difference with a 105 nikon in terms of pic quality. Best bet is go to a camera store with your body and try both, shoot same pics and go home and compare/analyze.
I have seen the tamron 90 advertised in a camera house catalogue for 500 odd, they are about 370-400 on ebay. cheers |

the 85mm is dx, (and also a bit slower at f3.5), so if you think you might upgrade in the future to a full frame body it wont work. 60mm is quite a short forcal length for serious macro, your working distance at 1:1 reproduction is a fair bit smaller than with a 90/105. this can be a pain for insects as they are more likely to move with something approaching them really close, and also you can block the light as you get very close, physically start blocking the light out. The longer length will also be very nice portraits.
if it was me i would get this and pocket the $200 difference Tamron SP AF90mm F/2.8 Di Macro 1:1 Lenses :: Tamron :: Lenses - eGlobaL Digital Cameras Online Store cant believe how cheap these things are getting. Cheers |
