if you are thinking about a full body camera later, never buy EF-S lenses. All L series are EF mounts and will fit in

24-70 and 70-200 great combo

Yep go 24-70 f2.8L. I've got one and its insanely sharp, fast and useful. Looking at your list you dont seem to have a milti-purpose everyday lens and the 24-70 is unbeatable for that role.

The 70-200 f2.8L is ther perfect partner for it, but will set you back over $2k!

Try eglobaldigitalcameras cheapest I've found and supply their own 2 year warranty. Lenses arrive well packed and within 4 days usually too.

Hey Guys,

Quick one, In my search for Canon Lenses when punching in 24-70 an Sigma option comes up...

Sigma 24-70 f2.8

Just wondering what the real world differences are between this and the Canon 24-70 option?

I look through spec sheets and I see some differences in numbers in places, but that doesn't mean anything to me as I'm amateur... Anyone help?

thanks!

Btw - car shots, and surfing shots will need two totally different lenses.

All good man, the 135 I have has enough length on it for most of the spots I surf!

for surfing maybe the sigma 120-400 or the 150-500 which are well within you budget Id say
for car shoot the 24-70 would suffice

main different between sigma/tamron to a cannon/nikon would probably be quality of the pics wide open, build quality, ergonomics, focus motor sound etc

Check out the Tamron AF 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD. (about $400 out of HK)
I was/am in a similar boat to you, for my nikon D700.
I wasn't keen on spending 2k+ on a lens so looked around for other options.
Check out the reviews for the tamron.
Also, go to pixel peeper (Advanced Search) to see sample images.

only by the amount of mm of your lens's focal length.

70-200 should make most ladies happy

Really happy with my canon 100-400mm l is lens. If you go that way a mono pod is also handy. The cars shots, are they action or static?
