also just picked up my 50mm 1.8 lens today great lens.. only can imagine how good the 1.4 and 1.2 is.

now i cant decide what to get

its either between

70-200 f4 l series USM (better qaulity better build metal body fixed f stop)

or

70-300 f4.5 to 5.6 Image stabaliser USM (plastic, longer zoom, Image stabaliser, with is on bring the stop coulple down anyway)

dont know

I would take the 70-200 in a second. Add a 1.4 x tele converter for when you want to shoot at 280mm and it will still take better pictures. These are so great in their native range.

Thats a totally valid concern, however in my experience of shooting rally cars and planes etc, I have always shot at at least f5.6 - f8 so that the whole vehicle has a better chance of being in full focus. Most of these events are in full sun too which means you can afford a few stops.

Personally I would/am waiting until theres enough in the savings for the 70-200 f2.8 as it takes in double the amount of light and is completely weather sealed from dust and rain. It is and extra $860 although lenses you will keep for many many years so if you buy quality and get what you want the first time you wont end up buying another one later on.

Jan (red_my04) has the 70-300 USM IS and takes some awsome shots with it, so its still a great option too.

have a read on here too...

yeh the 50mm 1.8 is a great lens I agree the 1.4 has nicer bokeh but for 180 you have to buy it and you dont worry to much about it either cos there so cheap I also think go the 70-200mm f/4
