Feed them with raw mince if you want to get them coming around regularly, I've got 4 that come into my yard now....one even eats out of my hand if its really hungry. The got used to me sticking a camera in their face pretty quickly
From that same web site:

"Grey Butcherbirds are aggressive predators. They prey on small animals, including birds, lizards and insects ... "

Be aware if you or your neighbors have caged birds at home. These things can be vicious little bastards, I've seen them come into enclosed patio areas and kill budgies and canaries in their cages.

Some strange settings you chose. Something you should note:

At 17mm and about 10m focal distance, you have infinity DOF after only a few metres, even at a aperture of F8 ish. This means there's no reason why you choose anywhere near F22 as it makes no difference in terms of DOF. What it does do, is that you have to shoot slower shutter speeds to let more light in and that's why your shutter speed was 1/8. You could have comfortably shot at F8 and 1/50 ish shutter speed for the equivalent light, and there'd be no need for tripods or anything.

Another thing is anything after F22 (smaller) you get diffraction in the lens, and lose considerable lens sharpness. Most landscape togs try to not go under F16 for this reason. If you need to stop down, then use ND filters.

Maybe he wanted 1/8 sec to blur the motion of the waves?
I don't think it was such a bad choice, looks better than if the waves were still.
