+1

I can't help but get the feeling that the GC8 is unhackable. But why would a later model of hardware as in '01 onwards be so much easier to crack... or is it that there is just not enough interest in geeking a stock GC8 ECU ?

Get 10 GC owners to all front up $1000 each, offer Verso 10k for a final product. It would make it worthwhile, if it's indeed doeable.

ecutek used to be available for gc8's.

google came up with this bit of info from a ex-ecutek tuner (for gc8's):

Quote:
We obviously retune ecutek, however, one thing to remember is that 99-00 WRX ECU's can be extremely unreliable and are known to crash when programming and they cannot be recovered. The differance between the 99-00 and later cars is that when we upload the changes made to the early ECU the flash tune uploads the whole tune file as opposed to the later cars where its only the changes that's uploaded. We recommend NOT to tune/retune ecutek on 99-00 WRX's and suggest either a PowerFc or Link G4 ECU, both of which cost significantly more ($2500 ish inc tune).

Tuning a PowerFc with a datalogit is 'flash' type tuning and like the 01-> ecuteks it only uploads the changes you make rather than the whole map each time you tweak something.

Yeah nah.

Can even tune the 94-96 ecu's if you have the correct tools.

There is another peice of software available on the romraider site called Learning View. This software allows you to read CEL codes, reset the ECU and also can read all the "learned data", like where on the map timing is being pulled and where fuel is being added/taken. Very handy.
Hey Jungle,

Sorry to dig up an old post you did a couple of yrs ago. Anything different about Ecuflash since you've had the verso? I can't seem to get the car into test mode, or grab the map off it since having the work done.
