07 wrx tune - COULD A MOD PLEASE LOCK THIS THREAD.

I am installing a 3"TBE onto my 07 wrx and alot of people have pointed out i will need a tune. This will be the only engine mod i am going to do to the car for a few years so i dont mind getting a tune now. Whats on offer, i do t have a clue about anything to do with tuning and the cheaper the better obviously.

kid 08-10-2012 04:23 PM

There's heaps of info on this...search.

But most people go for Verso or Ecutek for these cars.

Tony 08-10-2012 04:44 PM

Replacing the ECU with an aftermarket unit is going to be expensive though? I want to know if their are any options that dont involve having to change The ECU.

MadDocker 08-10-2012 04:47 PM

Search for Verso

There is the answer.
A reflash of the ECU means changing parameters inside of the ECU, nothing more.

Give these guys a call to ask for more details on what they do, how they achieve it and the prices involved.

Verso is a flash tune of you stock ECU. You don't need to replace the ECU.

kid 08-10-2012 04:50 PM

Ya both those options don't require a new ECU.

Verso is $990 last time I checked.

Edit: Beaten by these guys above^^ !

Tony 08-10-2012 04:56 PM

Ahhh ok. I had for some reason thought that verso and what not where a brand if ECU. Thanks for the link soksta, ill give them a call.

Just names for different packages that sort of achieve (within reason) the same outcome.

Tony 03-12-2012 02:37 PM

Had the re-flash done.

Just curious as to what you guys though of the graph. The original tune is kinda weird is it normal?

Kato 03-12-2012 02:46 PM

That looks like a lot of spaghetti nonsense.

Go back and ask for boost and AFR curves for both runs.

Is your car an auto?

Tony 03-12-2012 02:48 PM

Nope its manual.

Tony 03-12-2012 02:50 PM

This is the boost graph. Im assuming red is original and green is re-flash

Kato 03-12-2012 02:51 PM

Ok, while asking for those other items, ask why your torque curve starts at maximum.

350Nm at 2500 rpm is wrong. Have a look at every other dyno graph out there and your torque curve will start at a low figure and ramp up to the maximum value.

GTB Liberty 03-12-2012 02:52 PM

Who tuned?

REXXXED 03-12-2012 02:54 PM

Andrew - read the top of the dyno graph

Tony 03-12-2012 02:54 PM

Mmm i didnt think it was abit strange.

MadDocker 03-12-2012 02:59 PM

Says EVOR at the top of the graph.

GTB Liberty 03-12-2012 03:08 PM

Sorry ... I blame ALM induced hangover.

Tony 03-12-2012 03:18 PM

Edited an above post to include the boost graph. Which the original tune also looks strange.

Tony 03-12-2012 03:19 PM

I thought something was wrong with my car but it cant be because the re-flash shows it to be smoother. But in saying that, how can i tell as it starts at peak everything.

this graph..........................................................................................

makes no fucking sense!!

GTB Liberty 03-12-2012 04:51 PM

Sure it does Shane ... Everyone know that Ej motors idle at 2500 and develop peak torque immediately with no lag.

Never said by anyone ever.

This is a properly scaled graph.

Any tuner SHOULD provide all the above to anyone who just spent $X allowing them to play with your car.

Tony 03-12-2012 05:31 PM

Hey guys. Thanks to the people who showed interest in helping me out. Im locking the thread to prevent it damaging my relationship with Evo R. I was confused about the graph and thought it was normal, however abit of research and looking at graphs shows it not to be right.

Tony

stoff 03-12-2012 05:46 PM

Your factory tune looks about right for an 07. Subaru completely fucked up the tune on 07's which makes them jerky to drive. My 07 xt was the same before I had a reflash.

ImPreSiV 03-12-2012 06:00 PM

You're not locking anything... Neither am I. Tell me more about your relationship with Evo R. Were you asked to get your thread closed? Is someone holding a gun to your head... Wink twice if so...

RedMY01Owen 03-12-2012 06:12 PM

Can someone tell me what the major controversy is? A dyno run is simply that; one run on a dyno.

The key points to take from your graph is that your power delivery is a lot smoother and your car now has a much beefier mid-range. It makes a bit more power at the top-end and the same at the limiter (the reason for this is your tiny turbo). You can't really tell how it spools compared to before as the operator has obviously pre-loaded or pre-spooled the turbo. If you're worried about how quickly your car spools, open your garage, start your car and go for a drive. (pro-tip: it spools fast because it's a 2.5L with a td04)

Seems like a winning tune to me, go out and enjoy it.

Sounds like a completely wrong dyno graph to me.

Unless the motor was replaced with an electric motor, you don't make maximum torque at the start of a dyno run.

Pro-tip: Every other dyno graph in the world of a EJ255/EJ257 with a TD04.

Like I said, ignore the effects of the pre-spooling and focus on the information that can be extacted. The first 1000rpms or so are garbage, anyone can see that.

mao 03-12-2012 06:42 PM

No harm Tony. As mentioned, you will need that solenoid replaced as you can see the boost not holding.

AFRs are spot on there as you can see on the power run.

If you don't already have a Walbro fuel pump, get one. Also a Process West Top mount will be the way to go.

mao 03-12-2012 07:03 PM

Tony, will do a run at a lower rpm and show you the forum friendly smooth balanced curve.

Warick will take the time to explain to ya and give me a chance to post comparison graphs on the forum to show graphs at different rpm launches. This will make it clearer as well dude. And you can be here, while we are doing the run.

I am still learning, i ask a question about the original tune and why it was so weird. Only Stoff answered it. Everyone else commented about the rest of the tune not looking right, i didnt know, but it got me thinking, so i did some emailing.

I wanted the thread locked before people started turning it into a smear campaign before id had a chance to talk to Mao. Sorry if that is not to your taste.

Again, can you please lock this thread. Their is enough info for future reference without it needing to get ruined.

American Dave 03-12-2012 07:33 PM

no locking of thread is required....carry on

Please show the class where on the POWER curve you can see these "spot on" AFR's.

Just curious...

mao 03-12-2012 09:13 PM

This was already addressed in a PM sent to Tony and will open up the software for him to physically take a look.

So can we close this thread down now too... ;) I think it has been drawn out quite enough

astralex 03-12-2012 09:24 PM

A valid question was asked and it hasn't really been answered yet, so why shut it down?

Tony 03-12-2012 09:26 PM

It was answered.

pmh 03-12-2012 09:28 PM

Guys, this thread will be locked....however, for the interest of transparency including getting the questions that were raised addressed, please would the parties involved post FACTs.

So...more facts, less crap
