Default How to use ODB 1 on 97 GC8 wrx?

Hello all,

I'm quite confused on how to talk to my ECU via OBD 1... As far as i know the GC8's (before full face lift) don't have ODB 2.

So what cable works with them? I have seen a Subaru 9 pin to ODB 2 conversion / adaptor cable on EBay... Do i use that with a ODB2 to USB cable?

I searched for ODB and GC8.. but didn't find anything..

I have seen a really expensive standalone unit work with my car.. So i must be able to do something..

Thanks for the help.

Tim.

what do you want to do?, read codes?, if so you will need to use the yellow obd 1 plug to plug it in. or bridge 2 terminals to get the mil light to flash then count the flashes

I could.. But i have enough subarus.. so i would use it more than once. My local dealer is OK.. But nothing is done cheaply... $1070 for an indicator stalk??? I don't think so...
