If he wants one then I say go for it. Many TT's have multiple features built in like digital boost gauges that are great for people who want and enjoy this sort of thing. I still enjoy my Blitz Dual Turbo Timer and find it VERY useful at the track. Or in the morning when I need to warm up those forged internals on a cold (-2ish deg) Canberra morning...
