As Dougie and I said, best option is a 5speed out of a GD, gears are hardened, so are stronger then GC

4.444 box will be $1200 - $1500. As for the DCCD it is anybody guess as they are so hard to find. Expect circa $1k for a working centre. They are not repairable and the new cost is something stupid like $8k from Subaru.

Then you need all the electrics to run it. IMHO put a 6 speed in as the are not as vulnerable and much more plentiful.

Yeah dog box for a street car bit over kill! The noise will drive you insane!

Actually what I said to her was, I would only swap my 6 speed for a dogbox.

If you get the right dogbox the noise is imperceptible.

geez kb, you need to speak to kris at rising sun subaru, he will have a cheap late model low k 5er for you

for example he posted on ozfoz on august 8th:

we have 2 new wrx type new 5sp's coming next container for $1500 each..new inc clutch kit.

its not the end of the world & no reason to be spending 5k on a 6 speed conversion imho
