I think it would be safe to assume that Spence has included cost of parts/repair work/overhead into the equation 'as have I', as its rather pointless to respray a car if its not reasonably straight 'this is of course dependant on the situation', to which I understand you're also aware.

If you wanted to go into the more extreme side of things, speak to someone who has had a respray done in harlequin paint. The materials costs were 'at one stage/unsure now', approximately $1k per litre.

I would say your figures are pretty good IMO.
yes i was considering all over heads and parts and repairs. the harlequin paint is now at 990 dollars per 600 mls, sorry that you guys seem to think 10 grand is expensive, but when you actually work in the trade or have been involved with the trade, you would see how much work, time, effort, and money(by money i mean, sandpaper and plastic etc) gets spent on the jobs.. sorry once again..

I still find it funny how people in the trade say they wish they could charge $10k for a simple respray, customers say how they have never paid near $10k for a simple respray, Matt shows an absolutely epic job which is 100x more than a simple respray which cost $10k... But you seem to think it is the normal price.

And then mention harlequin paint?? Who the fark wants that crap still?

I apologies if I mislead you but I in no way meant to imply that it was a standard charge.

In regards to harlequin paint, who knows, it was just an example of extreme end cost of materials.

I guess we can all thank insurance companies for low cost of repairs.

Marc I'm not talking about any figures you are mentioning, so there is no misleading.

What I am trying to fathom out is Spence reckons a standard respray is $9-15k. He has then quoted rough prices for panels only which equates to ~$4,400 for basically a full car.

Then there is talk of 40 year old restorations costing $35k and the cost of harlequin paint. I've pointed out that the $10k price mentioned is stupidly high when you break it down.

This whole thread makes no sense to me and doesn't help anyone searching in the future. As Owen has said, he would love to charge $10k for a standard respray, but that is over priced. TJ has also said that none of his re-sprays have cost near $10k.

So given how far off topic this thread has gone, I think most people can see that $9-15k is not a standard respray cost and if they pay that, good luck to them.

Back to sticking bumpers from other cars on a GC8 please!
