I value the Australian standards enough to know that if it meets them it should be trusted

Steve, that pic I linked is the one Scott (TheDoctor) owns. You can pick it up from where he did in his above post

Very few people would have a spare $1200 dollars for a helmet; do they not have the same rights to brain protection as anyone else? I rolled my last track car wearing an affordable-spec safety standards approved helmet. The roll over involved my head hitting the roof of the car and the rear spoiler coming through the rear window and belting me in the head. The helmet needed replacing but I was completely fine. I didn't even get a concussion. Not that I wouldn't love an Arai but that's more to do with wank factor. Last edited by TheDoctor; 27-06-2012 at 09:28 PM. |

I have that same helmet steve. Its very comfortable and has good ventilation. Other plus side is plenty of options available for stuff all online, tinted visors new inner lining etc.

Does a $1200 make you go faster when you drive? Or make you look cooler? Coz I am so sure wearing a helmet makes 99.9% of people look like a complete and utter doofus. The only exception, would be The Stig.

A WRC spec helmet (they have hearing protection built in) does make you go faster if your car is noisy and you need to hear a co-driver clearly. In any other form of racing it'll probably make you slower because you can't hear the engine or the tyres locking.
In a closed cockpit car it's not as important as say an open wheeler or a motorcycle where your head is more likely to have a direct hit. Weight is a factor, also whether the helmet can accept a HANS device. Motorcyle full face helmets are often heavier to keep a rider's head steady at high speed, where a motorsport helmet is made as light as posible to reduce neck injuries. I have a decent Sparco WRC spec rally helmet that I use for proper rally events, anything else I have no problem using a $90 lightweight 'postie' spec open face from the Helmet House. |

It's a non timed skid pan at a local track in a family sedan... $80 helmet will suffice
Glad you agree Doug |
