Look carefully for cracks in the spark plug threads.

Thanks Doug, the heads that I have just taken off are cracked between the exhaust valves and spark plug holes, just enough to leak compression into the cooling gallery's . Do you have any heads lying around?

Try Mick at Japline in Malaga. He has a few sti engines there he is parting out
