Where did you pick up the 3.9 suratrac Rossco? Me thinks mine is on the way out.

Cheers

Update time once again

This is on:

It's stock officer!

Comparison of the VF34 to the TD05 I've fitted:

Completely different turbines - the TD05 is also back cut to flow more at high rpm:

I have an OP coming up but once that's delt with it will be 6 speed time
TROLLEY, Insome, xcelcius and 2 others like this.

The turbine blades (hotside) are machined. It's an alteration of the blade shape and length which helps to ease back pressure at high rpm.

Here's a visualisation:

Stock exhaust wheel on the left - back cut on the right.
Tony likes this.

Who doesn't love a chilly night to head out and smash some boost into a new turbo?

I'm still on fairly soft ignition timing up top (7-8 degrees above 1.5bar) so I'm not spinning it past 6K rpm at the moment (and that's where the fun really begins with my set up).

So how laggy is the back cut Td05 billet 20g combo?

1 Bar by 4000 rpm

1.6 bar by 4600 rpm......

I was expecting a lot worse seeing as the turbo has a back cut hotside, I can certainly live with that on a motor that makes power to 8500

There are still gains to be had during pre-spool where I'm still running around 6 degrees less timing than I used to run with the Vf34/ power Fc combo, so it might end up spooling 1-200 rpm earlier once the timing is back in.

I've spent a bit of time on getting a few of the Vi-Pec's advanced features set up and running to add some safety.

The car is now running closed loop boost control so ask for 1.6 bar & it locks at exactly 1.6 bar...........request 1.7 bar & it locks on 1.7 bar and never drifts.

Couple that with gear dependent boost limits (engine rpm v road speed): 1st 1.2bar, 2nd 1.4bar, 3rd 1.6bar, 4th 1.7bar, 5th 1.5bar.

The system works a treat and is helping me to not kill the STi 5 speed....

I'm using the in-built knock control - a mission to set up but well worth it - it now has active individual cylinder knock detection with knock targets mapped safely. The system will retard the timing if the target is exceeded but it also adds the timing back over 1-2 seconds if no further knock is detected......Very cool, very responsive & very safe.

Being a speed density system the IAT compensations are very important so I've spent some time working on the fuelling v inlet temp corrections - this one's pretty boring but it means a more accurate tune regardless of inlet temps.

Next will be either the 6 speed going in or me setting up the flex fuel system using a Holden Ethanol sensor....... No - it never ends
