Default MY REXTC and its RWD step sister

Hi Guys,

I've been a member on here for quite a few years, but never made a proper introduction. My name's Josh and I own an MY99 rex which after 7 years and a plethora of km's I recently retired to the garage and replaced with an '08 FG XR6 Turbo as my new daily.

Both cars are very midly modded, which is probably why the rex has kept on going for so long, plus I haven't had the XR long enough to modify it yet, but I'm sure it'll come in time!! Specs on both cars are below:

MY REXTC
1999 Automatic MY99 Subaru Impreza WRX
385,000kms and still going strong

Original motor, turbo and gearbox - all unmodified

Hmm, they could use those in a RenaultSport Clio! It's built for short people (like my dad).

Nice XR6T. Start modding it like Ramon and it really will be a dedlywepn! Any plans for it?

josh, get a chance visit xtreme and see the build on [DJ KICE] its arguable the trendsetter in FG XR6T mods in perth right now. currently making 380rwkw with bolt-ons and running in low 11's and in the process of stepping it up yet again. be worthwhile to check this car out to give you an idea of whats capabable without breaking the bank!

welcome to the blue turbo brotherhood!

Haha, cheers Ramon!! It's certainly a learning curve after getting used to the rex, there doesnt seem to be as much CLEAR information available online re tried and proven mod methods etc but I'm sure I'll get there. I do want to do alittle bit to it, but gotta get some cash coming in before I can do anything really.

I'd be happy with a low 12 ET, so I guess I wont have to do a great deal for that hey?

places like the australian ford xr6 turbo forum help, but like most online forums, this one included, are to be taken with a pinch of salt. the trick is to get all the information you can from all the sources and then make up your own mind. your turbo it seems, is the car's biggest bottleneck in that search for power but in saying that, with a flash tune with an xcal3 and a decent set of injectors, it should make 300+rwkw which is enough to get you started. the fg is blessed, in xr guise, with a better standard fmic so getting to 300 (this is sparta!!) shouldn't be a problem. exhaust is your next step, here, its totally personal but i would suggest avoiding things like the nizpro 4" or the xforce 3.5" as they are junk. the manta twin 3" seems to be working very nicely and locally made, not imported from the peoples republic of china. at this stage, around 330 will be made and this is when that factory turbo/intercooler need changing. process west has a gorgeous stage 2 kit for the fmic and turbotech do a complete swap-over to a larger core gt frame garrett and this is where the 350-380's start to show up. naturally fueling needs to be considered, the process west or rapid under car surge tank with 044 is an awesome bit of gear. 400 on the stock bottom end is not out of the question, but you need to do it now, while its still new and don't put 385,000kms like you did with the rex!

its a whole new learning curve for you but you will have fun with it, even if you just soak it all up now and when the time comes, attack it!
