Evolution of the Bug
Posting this up for Munya (and myself :p)
December 2007.As she was a month after buying her. Mods at this point included aftermarket rims, stereo system by Alberts and x-force exhaust tip IWRXOC Dunsborough Supercruise May 08, the car was fairly stock here other than the rims, x-force exhaust and Pedders Coilovers Colin McRae Memorial Cruise 2009, mods include Link G3 ECU, vf34p20, Zerosports radiator shroud, white line sway bars, anti lift kit, and Hyperflow TMIC. By January 2010 new mods include mesh foglight covers, x-force sorst, greddy boast controller, moulded gauge pod, cherry blossom red silicon intake, process west cold air intake, Sti projectors with HID.
Then the problems started. The ECU started throwing codes and is sent to New Zealand to be analysed, the stock ECU goes back in. Late March 2010 the Sti rims, brembos and braided brake cables arrive. The rims The brembos go on The bug makes an appearance at the Evo vs WRX hillclimb - Jack's Hill ................ in the carpark :p |
Nice, similar mod path to mine. What tune is on the car? I have a verso with a 34/P18 and making 190awkw, 340nm. I suspect the P20 will get you over 200awkw but wondering how much laggier it is.
Do you have a full TBE system? |
Nice bug :D
although, 3rd pic from the bottom, theres a bit of an unsightly crack starting to appear that you should probably get bogged up... |

hey dude. nice chattin to ya today. thats a nice bug you have.
get the other brembos on hahahaha. |
yeah i will sort out the rear soon mate just got to get the clearance issue sorted first for the rear
|
Love it man, it's looking goood.
|
Both sets of brembos are now installed, link has gone back in as of this week (retuned today) and new headers have been installed. The brembos are now pretty well bedded in.
The car is sounding aggressive and has a really distinctive roar now as opposed to the deep rumble it was sporting before. Future mods with include new engine, and gearbox. Mark is also on the look out for some semi slicks that will clear brembos so the car handles better on track. Looking forward to the next track day or cruise to see what it can do now :3gears: |
niceee

Great stuff.. You guys are getting serious ;)

Let me guess, you were awaiting approval from the misses? :p |
Let me guess, you were awaiting approval from the misses? :p
He has my approval to do pretty much anything with it... except writing it off. I'd be pretty devo if he did that. When he is on his away shift its hard to say what I miss most him or the car and which I'm more happy to see when he gets home :p |
Mark is also on the look out for some semi slicks that will clear brembos so the car handles better on track.
Good to see you you guys ate having fun with the upgrades. Oh and semi slicks don't need to clear brembo's as they are just tyres. ;) |
Let me guess, you were awaiting approval from the misses? :p
since i have approval next on the list is of wants is 2nd set of rims with semi slicks on them, some anti squeak for the progect mu pads for now and abit later 6speed box with full r180 conversion diffs, hubs, shafts etc then need to decide if i am going to run jdm sti heads or stick with my my01 heads with some nice big cams in them :D |

Oh and semi slicks don't need to clear brembo's as they are just tyres. ;)
um yeah I realised after I re-read it total blonde moment :o. Should read another set of rims that clear brembos to be used with semi slicks. |
well a bit of an update to this i guess been a while..
the bug now sports a linkg4 ecu after issues with the link g3 pnp ecu that refused to work in my car for some reason. The car has since been resprayed after a fender bender at Collie last year while in the paint shop i had the boot lock shaved and completely debaged. New Variex Cannon muffler installed and wired up with the help of the Fobz mister :), OCD for the detail after paint job thanks Adz.. some bling Defi guages that dtrally had sitting in a display thing in his shop part installed by him and compleated by me and Daz last nigh and managed to strip one of the wires out of the plug fail.. thanks to the RMS crew for the tune and service to my car and dont ask how much power i am making all i know is i am running 1.4 bar boost on the vf34p20 and the humble 205 motor is still buzzing. Plans for later built motor in the works and 6 speed with compleat r180 transplant and some dms40 coilovers to replace my pedders extream coilovers that have been in the car the past 2 and a bit years few more thing to be done then i will be done and will probably get me a evo |
^^^ Don't forget the Grimmspeed antenna delete from Wayne :) Or the need for a car with towing capacity in case of bug on the wall damage again :p
|
Wow huge plans!!
|
Wow huge plans!!
never quit work out as i plan but will get there eventually Russ:p |
i want an evo now also :p
|
Funny story how he came about getting the bug was back in December 2007 he went to have a look at a Tommy Mackinnnen (sp?) spec Evo while I was at work. I came home from work and asked how it went. Off the cuff reply from him "I bought a WRX!" :p
|
Bit of an update on behalf of Mark.
The car has been sporting a set of DMS coilovers for a couple of months now. It sure corners a heck of a lot better but is a bit hard on the old bottom on long trips :p He got bored of the Varex plus disliked the way the car ran with it on about 2 months ago and sold it on . He got a Butler installed by Stechnic recently followed by a tune. On the way to Collie for the tuning day 2 days after picking up the newly tuned bug the gearbox broke 500 metres out from Armadale Hospital on Albany Hwy during peak hour traffic. It took a couple of days but after finding virtually the only 6 speed gearbox left in WA, a few extra bits and pieces plus needing a new flywheel and clutch the bug now sports a 6 speed gearbox. Thanks to Doug and the rest of the crew at Stechnic for working so hard to get the new gearbox up and running and for driving Mark and I to Collie so I could fulfill my marshalling duties. |
Great work Mark and Sarah. Look forward to seeing the bug drop some epic skidz with the new 6 speed. The butler sounds awesome too.
|
Hmm...bout time for a new motor isn't it??? Then there will be nothing original remaining untouched on the car =)
|
Cheers Dave will be picking the bug up from Doug and I will see about the skids am still to try out the gopro I got from Simons group buy on my car
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Sweet.
|
2 way plated rear diffs = scary cornering and skids :D
|
pics of said skidz are not loading
|
Good to see its back on the road Sarah.:3gears:
|
after spending the morning with dough the missing reverse lights are now fixed now to make sure said skids get captured somehow
|
Looks like you got all the stuff, Im impressed. One day maybe my bug will be the same too!!!
|
Well time to up date this been ages .... from last i did an update
the bug now has click that is both the front and back seats and yes we cut up my 10 year old carpet and replaced it with the new one to go with the seats...This event have made me real happy with the car after 1 broken 5 speed a well 200kw for 4 years something was bound to give. 1 x 6 speed that fail clutch selector fork housing cracked = no clutch. Sourced another 6 speed that got delivered very broken. Ordered new 6 speed belhousing and cannibalised the case off the first 6 speed mentioned above to repair the freight damaged one had to wait 2 weeks for new belhousing from japan and I remember telling the boys at Stechnic if anything else turns up broken the Bug was going to be stripped and sold for parts but have since changed my mind on that:rolleyes: |
true story..patience rewarded...thank fark the boys at Stechnic dont listen to you.
good work on changing out the carpet at the same time....no eating or drinking in bug now? |
