Default Bob's 89 Lude

The other side of the fence. It's a Honda.
Old school wedge shape with mechanical 4WS.
After owning a VH HDT Commodore I got sick of fixing things so I bought the Prelude. Intent being..no more working on the car.
Never liked the ride height so I lowered it on some Lovell springs and it started from there. Frequented the relevant forums for long enough to get drawn into parts that come up for grabs and making things better when they broke.

I'm trying not to make the WRX money pit #2.

Now days when its not broken and on stumps its like this:

A bit of insight.
Nobody supports parts for this car. Most bits are custom or made to fit from other cars.

So. Some time around 5 years ago.

Purchased a built short block and O-ringed head from a mate in the know.
Forged internals, basically reco head with SS O-ring inserts with the intent of using a copper head gasket.

The workshop.

Custom ARP head stud kit required. Subsequently set up a kit with ARP direct in the states for others to do the same thing.

Its a stock 5 speed tranny with a Teg DC2R Quaife LSD fitted.

All eventually assembled.

and bolted into the car. Out with the old.

In with the new

Compression test results.

1 - 135 psi
2 - 134 psi
3 - 130 psi
4 - 132 psi

All even. All good. Not so lucky.
Copper HG leaked.
Rip it apart, installed OEM graphite HG. Carry on.

Dropped in a Hondata S300 ECU and had it tuned. 94kW atfw. Stock is around 75kW atfw. So not too shabby considering its on reduced compression pistons.

30,000kms later and still no turbo. Got distracted with suspension and stereos.
The head gasket fails on a trip to Collie. Found a trail of oil down the LHS of the car. Did not pass through the scrutineers and nursed it home. Thank god for the oil pressure gauge as I think it saved the engine. There's 8 lts of oil on the return road to Perth.

Stripped it down, drove around on the original motor for several months. Due to having this as a daily driver needed another car. So we bought the Rex. Thanks Shannon, we are taking good care of it.

Teamed up with a few guys in the states again to get an MLS Cometic gasket made where none previously existed. Southside fixed up the head for me. Dropped in some heavier valve springs to avoid float under boost. Reassembled and installed. Gasket holding fine.

Upped the fuel system gear and this time took the plunge and tuned it myself. Now returning 10lt /100kms (as good as stock) with the larger injectors.

Still to come is the turbo, however the manifold is done and waiting install.

Target figure is around the 180-200kW, but I need it tractable so this will be a trial and error thing. Not fussed about strait line times. I'm more concerned with getting it around corners.

There's a lot more to it. But that's the basics.

Sub install

One of the many interior attempts. Got sick of the DVD screen. Went back to basics.

Engine in its more recent state.

Yes it does. I've been working on that for far too long now.

These are the pics while the manifold was being fabricated.
It's now been faced off and once I have some cash again I'll trial fit and send it off with the housing and O2 pipe for ceramic coating.

Cheers guys. I wasn't sure how it would be received here.

It's been a huge learning experience for me.
