Default My project STI

After owning my car for the past 5 years I was at a crossroads. I wanted to give it a full respray but I also always wished that when I built it I had used an STI driveline. After much pondering and daydreaming I found this;

Previous owner had owned this 97 Sportswagon for a number of years and decided to convert it. Rather than buy a front cut, the guy bought an entire low kms V3 STI from JWS to use as a donor. He got to the point of having the driveline bolted in and and got the car 90% ready for paint before his panel beater died. He had run out of money and enthusiasm with the project so a deal was done.

I have owned it for about 2 weeks and got it running yesterday. Wooo.
Will update this thread as I go. I am aiming for it to be finished in 6 months but easter would be good.

Anyways, pics;

Thanks goes out to Neil (Seagull) for the loan of an engine loom to help me re-pin this

Need more storage...

And a random box of spaghetti

The donor car had a bunch of random gauges installed that I won't be using so I have deleted all of them. I'll be working on the body first up I think, chosen colour is Isuzu Starry Black Mica. I'll be repainting the inlet manifold, installing a silicone inlet and zero-sports intake pipe that I already have here. Unsure of what springs are currently in it but they seem to be quite stiff. If they are not suited to my needs I will alter that later. I have the front STI seats so will be on the hunt for a matching rear. Have a few plans for the interior but will share them if and when they come to light.

Budget is a little tight but I will be doing all the work myself so no worries on labour costs. If I can get as much satisfaction out of this project as I have from my GX conversion, I'll be ecstatic.

Hell yeah, cant wait to see how it goes.

So is the other wags for sale or keeping it for a baby taxi?

Oh and I got to drive one of those toyo vans like you have from the docks the other day - no wonder you bought it - drives like a car!

Looks like a good build.

I'll be keeping an eye on this one.

Hope everything goes smoothly for you.

Kym, I'll let ya know next time I have a free day to work on it. Had Rob over yesterday and achieved our goal of getting it running.

Russ, yep just gonna be a quick streeter. Building it to be pretty much a standard V3 STI with a few little tweaks here and there.

TJ, yep the white wagon is in the for sale section atm. Had a little interest so far and looking at what there is available at the moment I think it is very reasonably priced so shouldn't hang around too long. When it sells, it will fund the STI build.
