Lachy's Driveway

Hi all,

OK now i know most of you will know this car but its my turn with it so i figure why not keep you in the loop too.

For a first car i wanted something fun to drive, and preferable AWD, and be able to compete in some motor sport events. Growing up heavily involved in rally has that effect, but also taught me how quickly things can and do go wrong. After bouncing through alot of cars, I ended up buying TJ's Liberty RS.
Now 6 months later (cant believe its gone soo quick) ive competed in a bunch of skid pan days, hill climbs and the March rally sprint and learnt so much about how to drive one of these cars semi-fast, I still have a lot more to go!

What the RS currently has:
I haven't fiddled much with it since i got it, mainly just getting familiar with driving an AWD car.

*taken from the for sale thread*

OMP Steering wheel
Sti Gear Knob
STi front seats.
APEXI Boost gauge
STi Pedals

What I plan/want to do to it, in no particular order:

Wheel alignment
Find another set of rims to put some decent rubber on (open to suggestions, learning towards and AD08 at the moment) on and use them as a track tyre instead of using street tyres.
Getting bigger injectors and a Apexi PFC and fit the Vf29 turbo i have in the shed.
4 pot brake upgrade.

Would be nice to have most of that done by the end of the year but plans can change soo quickly. When i get there il figure out what i want to do next. For sure i could go fancy and 6 speed and bigger turbos and bigger brakes ect, but hey im still a kid (18) i have plenty of time for that stuff later on.*

*might be at the beginning of next year :p

Pics: Ill upload some other ones over the next couple of days at the moment the ones from the last rally sprint.

I may as well be one of the first to reply.

1. I cant believe those tyres are still at 99% hahaha, wait till you throw some rubber on it, it will transform the car. On R-Comps there is a genuine 58 in that at wanners short track with the stock ECU and turbo, I have no doubts.

2. I am glad it went to a really good home. I can safely say this now, but you are a pretty switched on kid with your head screwed on... probably more so than me at 11 years your senior. I had huge reservations about selling to a 17 year old, as I didnt want to see it on the news for the wrong reasons. Proven me well and truly wrong there.

3. I must remember to get my chipped ECU's to explode more often on test drives. Truly " one of those moments"

4. Cuscos are V29 are welcome back anytime :D

Will be a pleasure seeing the old girl around, continuing to develop, and most importantly, being used and enjoyed.

Possibly, i just need the headlight switch for the high beams. normal lights work fine, pull to flash and high beams work fine, push it away to lock it on and ive got no lights.

lachy294 17-04-2012 09:22 AM

Cheers Russ!

Cheers Kym and will do, can it please hurry up haha!!

Cheers Mike!

Commendable spelling and grammar from a 17 year old?

What kind of magic is this.

Welcome to the forums btw.

Master D 17-04-2012 10:41 AM

If you ever want senseless fun - unplug the afm, and go take it for a drive. Full throttle past 2000rpm = huge bangs and flames out the back :D

trblmkr 17-04-2012 02:37 PM

lachy294 18-04-2012 06:43 PM

Well today was both good and bad. Firstly big thanks to the guys at Evo-R for there work on the car given the circumstances, unfortunately I need a need another steering rack fairly soon, just a quick one to see if on here has one that will fit an rs? but ill be checking all the usual suspects and seeing if they have one.

GX-REX 18-04-2012 06:48 PM

I have an N/A Impreza one here that will fit.

rstasy 18-04-2012 07:03 PM

Remember doing a bit of work on this for TJ :)

You'll be hooked on RS's for life now. I shit you not! That's coming from experience.. 3 libertys later. Haha.

Hope it goes well for you - it's a seriously neat example of an RS and it goes pretty hard; coupled with the fact that it handles on rails.

forde 18-04-2012 07:52 PM

JDM STI RA quick rack. Not sure how much they are though

ewrxion87 18-04-2012 10:57 PM

nice to meet you today mate, i ended up leaving evo r around 5 15... sore Trolleys nice peice of work on the hoist looking nice also. the boys are Evo R looked also after me well.

lachy294 19-04-2012 05:23 PM

GX-REX: Ill let you know, thanks.

Rtasy: Haha oh well bring it on :p Cheers

Forde: i hadnt thought of that but cheers for the idea.

Exwrxion: Yeh you too! oh ouch im glad i was out when i was.

lachy294 20-07-2012 11:28 PM

Well its been a while since an update but the car hasn't gone that far.

I decided to do the steering rack change myself knowing I had as much time as I needed and a spare car to use, it just took way longer than I was expecting. I managed to get Ivan Tan's old rack from his GC8, which turns out to be a 2.7 and had that ready to go in and the initial installation went well right up to the point where I needed to reconnect the power steering lines then the problems started. I didn't realise that the RS and GC8 had slightly different line angles. So the RS ones wouldn't fit, then managed to get some off Corrie which went in until they needed to connect to the fluid reservoir and they were out by quite a bit and that was that. So in the end i went out and bought braided lines and have finally got them on and bolted up with everything that I took apart, done back up :)
Will be starting it back up tomorrow morning for the first time in a while so hopefully all goes well and will be competing at sprint on Sunday!

Also during that time I grabbed the VOS ecu off TJ and managed to fix that up so that will be going back in as well. Also grab some used A032 and will be putting them on for sunday so it will be good to see the diffence between crappy street tyres and used r-comp.

Big thanks to Ivan at Go gear for the rack and advice, Corrie and Ludwig for the help along the way, and TJ, mainly for the ecu but as well constantly telling me to fix it :p and anyone else ive forgotten thanks :)

teejay 20-07-2012 11:59 PM

Very very keen to see this at wanners with the good rubber.

I predict 57's.

First clean its had in a long time!

Cars going into ASG tomorrow to be dyno checked and make sure its not mucking around. Recently it had a wheel alignment from the guys at Wilkinson and it feels great!
Its had coil packs replaced (one of which died and that was causing the issues at rally sprint), spark plugs and leads replaced.

If all is well I'm aiming on doing the No Limits night on the 6th after everything has been bleed once again.

Cheers to all that helped out along the way once again :)

teejay 20-11-2012 10:03 PM

lachy294 20-11-2012 10:07 PM

lachy294 20-11-2012 10:32 PM
