I guess I and others dont see your logic in saying not to buy it, yet wont offer any reasons as to why you say it other than "the owner said not too".

Yeah I understand its not an ideal response.

The best I can say is I have absolutely nothing to gain by warning people off of the car, other than saving someone some pain.

Understood. However a compression test and leakdown test, box inspection, full checks etc and if they check out ok it could be ok to buy. Regardsless of tortured history.

If no one is gunna disclose why it shouldnt be bought, then its probably a good buy either for parts or for a track hack.

OK just been and looked at it this morning.
Here's the list

Panel work seems relatively straight although the left front rail has been pulled and straightened from previous front end accident. Could have other bogged up panels I did not notice.
Roof has a lot of bog in it. Odd for so much bog in roof (maybe from container damage during import from Japan or something more sinister)
Turbo is cacked (seals going)
Fuel pump is cacked
Blown head gasket(s)
Fuel injectors are probably well fouled from sitting for so long
Wiring has been bodged during splicing to put later model loom into it (V2-V4).
Clutch is on its way out
Didn't check the gearbox serial numbers however may have a mis-matched rear diff. Dooesn't seem to have the JDM RA close ratio box in it, so probably whatever box the front cut had (which is why the rear diff may be mis-matched)
RH rear hub/or wheel bearing is noisey enough you can hear it whilst driving. Didn't jack it up to check the other wheels.
Didn't check the brake pads, hwoever all rotors are well scored.
Has had a few heavy belts underneath, looks like kerb damage, could have bent trailing and/or lower control arms if the car has seen kerbs.
Didn't open the boot to check for rear end panel damage.
Will need a re-spray
Struts are all cactus. Springs have been cut down to lower car.
Driver's seat belt buckle cactus
Tyres are shot
15" wheels are not much chop.
Battery cactus
Trans seems OK, however I only puttered it up the road in low gears due to other discovered mechanical issues.

The owner is a nice guy and didn't seem to know much about the car or its previous history.
IMO it would need a lot of work to bring it up to a reliable Club/track day car.
