Default Macmillionare's Classic GC8 Track hack!

Hi Everybody!

I've been on here a few years but never really thought of making a driveway post! I bought this early 96 GC in late 2010 and I had the intention of keeping it relatively stock as I have huge respect for the old school origins of the WRC giant that is Subaru! No chrome rims for me!

After a while of casual driving my gf bought me a voucher for a morning on the MC motorsport skidpan... no turning back from here . My plans changed to include a few mods to make it handle a bit better as well as a new intercooler and intake kit. After I bought some sexy wheels the car was coming along nicely.

After another day with P-diddy at MC motorsport as well as a day at midvale with the siliawa guys I decided to make the leap to entry level coilovers to flatten out the ride. I realised it was a good time to do a brake upgrade so I went for the 4-2 pot conversion from the later models as well as some new lines and better pads/rotors.

After a couple of years of daily driving and only one more track session for some reason based on some silly impulse buy I ended up with this stock as a rock MY05 WRX hatch. 104K on the clock and nothing I could see was wrong with it. I guess I found one for the right price and acted as we all would in the situation!

Such an amazing contrast from a raw handling rally bred machine to a more refined smooth, yet still just as fast newer generation. The gf loves the distinct lack of tit bounce without the race tuned colovers as well!!
Planning on not touching this thing as far as upgrades go as I don't need to.. It's already fantastic!

After a while of sitting around trying to work out whether I wanted to sell the car I flipped on my decision after I read RoughStilin's thread on bringing the old gc wagon back to life and it inspired me! First priority was handling so I chased down a quicker ratio steering rack (Thanks Quexy) as well a few other bits and pieces to make her piss around corners!

After a while I stalled and didn't do much until I went to the Mcrae sprint round 4 and my eyes were opened. I wanted to do it so bad I jumped back online and researched exactly what I needed to get there. Within a few weeks this happened...

I went a little crazy and got rid of her guts when I probably didn't need to!! It's amazing how much shit you can pull out of one of these things. Next step is relocating the battery to the rear (Thanks to Autopro C'vale for helping with the kit) and ripping all the aircon out. Currently looking into buying seats/belts and a harness bar and then it'll be pretty much ready for action! I'm not really planning anything for the engine as it's 150K old and I feel as though I'd get more fun out of killing this one and then getting an sti front cut and going crazy when I have the money to do so and once I am a better driver!
I have however dropped coin on an eBay spec TBE and some replica tomei equal length headers as well as some ultrex braces as it's so effin Cheeeep!

I look foward to seeing some of you guys at no limits/Mcrae sprint etc when I'm ready but as for now, there is work to be done!!!
If anybody has any pro tips which would help me out with my project it would be much appreciated as I'm learning this shit as I go along...

Sorry doug just bought some on the internets... I will be needing some seat rails though if you guys do them? Looking at buying some Sparco Sprint V seats to bolt in.

Not as far as I know, maybe just included with the limited edition package? they match the front and rear seats so that's my guess!

Why relocate the batteryto the boot? Its a lot of extra weight in cables etc.

Just buy one of these - depending on the size they are about 1kg...

Super B | Super B

The cable to the boot will weigh more than that....

Beat me to it!

But yeah. a lightweight battery is a bigger weight saving considering all the fucking about a rewiring and running cable, fixings etc etc etc.

awesome to see this coming back to life. this was a well setup car from what i remebered.

Get yourself around 8 - 10kgs of dry ice & cover all of that sound deadening & smash that shit off (including in the boot). From memory when I did mine there was around 8Kg's of weight in that alone. There is also the soft (carpet underlay) under the pedal are & upto the fire wall that can be cut out too.

I would have a chat to people in the know, but you may want to be careful changing exhaust & headers without a tune. To my knowledge, I don't think it is possible to tune the standrd ECU in the model you have.

video of tits bouncing ?

also, you may find yourself in need of a twinscroll sump to fit the equal length headers. you could have bought the whole package from me with ceramic coated headers for less but oh well

BOC is just down the road from where I work so dry ice will happen..

I was thinking I'd need a tune after the exhaust so i might as well go for fuel system while I'm there?
