Way too close to the oil pan that will seriously heat your oil up. I'll post pics of my old set up in a sec.

It had a Garrett GTX35R on it and was at 30psi at 4100rpm on the dyno and around 3800rpm on the road.

There isnt enough space to do it the way ive laid it out anyways. I thought i could have the merge bang on central, but even pushed that far back to the sump, there isnt enough space. Im gonna have to go back to the drawing board.

Damn subarus and the lack of space in the engine bay...

Ive changed my mind on the header layout. There just wasnt enough space for the central 4 into 1 design i did yesterday. So ive re-designed it and re-made it and got it setup a bit more like a conventional equal length design. Well kinda - my design has the cyl 1 & 3 pairing below cyl 2 & 4 which is opposite to common ELH design. By doing it that way i can reduce the number of sharp 90° bends, instead replacing them with 45° bends. And also allows a very equal length / eqyal volume design.

I'll say it again.
You're going to cook your oil big time.
This is what you need.
It's easy to make, will easily clear the oil pan and is responsive as hell.

How am i gonna cook the oil with the new headers when the headers they replace run the same distance off the sump?

dazdavies 17-07-2016 07:47 PM

If your second pic is anything to go by they are too close.
Might be OK for two or three sprint laps but do a 20 minute session at Barbs in the summer and watch those temps climb.

Bram 17-07-2016 07:57 PM

Ill take my chances. These headers will be wrapped with header wrap tape, then covered over with 'sheet hot' shielding just like my other headers. Ive left enough clearance to fit the tape and sheet hot. The sump holds 5 L of oil, and theres an oil cooler on it too.
