Default Another non dak-dak thread...

So as some of you know I have gone to the dark side and purchased an EVO, was only a matter of time. It was imported into Australia in 2012 with just over 50,000km where it went though two owners, had plenty of money spent modifying and maintaining the car and now is in my hands with roughly 65,000km.

So a few days into EVO ownership and I can report that all is good, there are some things that I miss about a Subaru but I do like the overall feel and feedback from the car. To shakedown the car I took it for a nice cruise down to the Plex to watch Targa and Rally Sprints with a few lads and it was faultless there and back.

Mod list:
Mod list:
- Tokyo Motorsports 3″ turboback exhaust
- K&N High-flow panel filter
- Plazmaman inlet pipe
- Grimmspeed 3-port boost control solenoid
- Walbro fuel pump
- TMS retune (230kw / 420nm @ 1.6bar)
- EXEDY Organic Clutch
- DBA T3 Rotors
- PROJECT MU NS400 Pads
- PROJECT MU Dot 4 Fluid
- EIBACH Sports Springs
- EVO VIII Enkies
- KUMHO KU36 (235/45R17)
- RALLIART Lip Kit
- KSP Carbon Fiber Exhaust Shield

I plan on using the car for mainly the sprint series at RAC (if they resume) and McRae rally sprints. I also have a few minor things that need doing on the car:
- Tint; has never had tint, so will book TKO in a few weeks - DONE
- Floor mats; showing their age, will order new ones from Matcraft - DONE
- Tyres; will likely just get 245/40R18 RE003 when the buy 3, 4th free deal happens next - DONE
- Paint Rims; paint the rims gloss black to clean up the look of the car - DONE
- Paint Calipers; typical Evo brake paint fade, que fresh red paint - DONE
- Machine Rotors; slight vibration under hard braking - DONE

Some longterm plans might lead to;
- Whiteline 24mm rear sway bar.
- EVO 9 turbo or GTP712 turbo.
- PLAZMAMAN intercooler hotside piping.
- ORC twin plate.
- E85 flex tune if it becomes readily available.

Very tidy Pickup.

Still nuts how these make such insane power with next to no mods at all.

Look forward to seeing it around 👍

It's ridiculous really, especially after all the money I spent on EJ's to get somewhere close to 300hp. The best bit is because majority of the engine is still stock it drives great off boost, and on boost it quite responsive for a 2L thanks to factory twin scroll

So a little over a week into EVO ownership and it is all going great, there are things like the boxer exhaust note, huge Subaru community and second hand spares market that I miss but the awesome handling and precision of the chassis and steering makes up for those

I gave the car another detail and the notice the clear coat on the polish lip of the rims is peeling, so the re-paint or powder-coating is going to happen sooner rather then later. The tint is booked for August 1st and getting new floor mats made by Matcraft around the same time.

I was tossing up the idea of changing the rims, but I like the fitment and style so I will just repair and refurbish them. Then it is time for some more power with a high flowed EVO 9 turbo (GT Pumps 712GTP), some 1000cc injectors and change out what stock intercooler piping is left... here is hopping for 260KW

Looking good Dan, are you on evo-oz?

Also any reason you want the 712 over the standard 9 turbo? Plenty of 2L engines getting around with the 9 turbo with great results. There's a 6 in Perth touching 300kw on Tokyo's dyno with e85 and a 9 turbo. Might save you some dollars for other fun stuff.

That is just the plan for now, if I find a tidy EVO 9 turbo that will be just as good, especially for a second hand price.

The benefit of the 712GTP is that it will spool quicker and out-flow a OEM 9 turbo, so I have the potential to make more power, sooner and on less boost. So there is some method behind my madness Jack

Oh no doubt the 712 is a better turbo, I was just offering some food for thought. I'm still kicking myself for missing a $700 e9 turbo that was ready to go. If you're buying new or if the turbo needs a rebuild then it is more of a no brainer to go with your plan

So a little update for the car, first was the tint. I cannot recommend TKO enough, they have done most of my cars (bar a few that had decent tint) and I always get the car back as clean and finished perfectly. I got the 3M darkest legal all round (35% front, 20% rears). After two weeks without tint it is a very welcome addition even for just a little privacy and kills the in car glare.

Second was some new wipers because the el'cheapo stirps were more effective at smearing the water, not clearing the windscreen. So I had an AUTO ONE voucher so grabbed some BOSCH Flex Blades, they make the arms sit a little higher but importantly they actually do something!

The last purchase was some new wheel nuts. The current 19mm nuts with a thin wall socket gouge the rim and has been thoroughly beaten up already. I made a lot of calls and shop visits but 17mm black nuts seemed near impossible to find, but one late night at work on EBAY I found a set of PROJECT MU 17mm nuts.

The next thing on the list is to pull the rims and tyres off, then spend a day fixing all the rash and a small dimple in the lip before I palm it off to someone to paint or powdercoat. Either method it will be a grey, maybe a little darker then the one pictured.

My non-car mod for the day is an iPad dash for my race seat. Used a Go Pro handlebar mount and downloaded PCar Dash (wifi connectivity). There are about 8 preset displays each with different info and styles.

It is a great addition. You can change displays with a quick tap of the screen or change the format by swiping. Everything from water temp, boost pressure, brake temp, tyre pressure and even data telemetry... it all seems a little wanly but really good fun.
