Can someone please help me out and send me a photo of a SM4 or tell me what the hell they look like, is it a box on its own or a plugin ecu that goes where the original one was. My Autronics works with SM2 software but not SM4 software so im not sure if it actually is a SM4.

The PnP board looks like every other PnP unit - it should clearly say on the connectors SM4 for Subaru MY01-05 (or similar) - it doesn't come in a box - looks like this:

Hmmm pulled mine apart only had a Autronic sticker with SUB MY99-00 and serial number printed on a sticker, Didnt say anything about a SM4. Would this indicate a SM2 ECU? Will the Board on the SM4 be identical to the board posted above?? Mine has grey connectors.

The type of software that works is the telltale - if the SM4 software doesn't work - then it is not an SM4.
It will more than likely be the SMC model (PnP for 99-00wrx V5/6sti)
