No Limits -15th November. Need Practice.

So I hit up No Limits for the first time.
The best times I could manage from 2 runs of the long track and 1 run of the short track were:
Short: 64.2
Long: 75.9
Neither is really that great. In fact imo they were very slow but I guess it's a start for me to gauge where I am at and improve from here.
A mistake I made before hand was not even checking tyre pressure...100% confident they were too high given I did not pump them myself.
So the only changes for the next No Limits in December will be obviously setting the tyres at 28-30psi before and also running Castrol SRF brake fluid (the Super Dot4 stuff was boiling kettle-spec after 2 consecutive runs of the long track).
Other than that, it's just a matter of learning the track and my braking points (more time lost there due to me braking waaaaay to early). I am sure I am capable of better even if I am on street tyres (KU36's).
Once I start to feel comfortable I may invest in some A050's and go for broke but until then, its just practice as much as I can.

Nothing wrong with the times there.
I'm no wanners expert (haven't even set a time there, so you are faster than me!) but seems like you need more seat time with an instructor. DOT4 shouldn't be boiling after 2 laps so it is either old or you are on the brakes too much.
28-30psi in a street tyre sounds way too low as well. Usually a street tyre wants a bit more pressure to avoid sidewall flex. Pressures are different for r-comps, so don't listen when people talk pressures for them.Posted 22-11-2012 at 01:26 PM by Kato

Around 34-36 cold should give around 40psi hot, which i found to be good, but thats how i prefer it.
All you will need is seat time with instructors shane. The times will fall as you become comfortable with the track, speeds, lines, braking points.Posted 22-11-2012 at 02:04 PM by Master D

Wouldn't worry too much....go to a few more No Limits nights and the times will drop naturally.

Ah okay, I will run them at normal temps next time around lads. The fluid is pretty new Kato (less than 4 months) so I'm going to say I am on the brakes too hard too early for too long haha such a bad combination.Posted 22-11-2012 at 11:03 PM by monkeee

Shane, you didn't look "slow" out there, so I wouldn't worry about those times. Especially since it was your first time out there. As the others said, you will improve with more practice. Get as much time with the instructors as you can, some of those guys are great. Even let Ducky or Franz drive your car for you, so you can see what it's capable of, and give you something to really aim for!

You're complaining about fluid but what pads do you have in there?
And you said you think that your tyre pressures were too high and that you should drop them to 28-30pis, But why pressure do you think they might have been at on the night?Posted 23-11-2012 at 11:06 AM by ALEX.

The QFM A1RM's Alex. Front and rear. The rears are near brand new and the fronts have a lot left on them. DBA4000's front and rear as well.
I think the tyres were at 36/38 (I had Bob Jane fit them in Mt Lawley because I ordered the tyres through them).

But why lowering so much?
Everyone else is saying they are running 36-38 hot on street tyres.
Too low and you will have more problems.
Fluid has been cooked, try new and as said get the instructors to jump in with you. That's my plan for next year as I need to learn2drive!Posted 24-11-2012 at 09:39 AM by Kato
