Default yellow sticker rant.

after getting rid of my highly illegal L series offroader (welded diff, big lift kit, engine swap etc) i was glad to be driving around in a stock ish rex thinking i dont have to worry about anymore yellow stickers. obviously seems I was wrong. the HIDs that i love were just a bit too bright for the cops.

wasnt doing anything wrong, just out with a mate taking some snaps near abernethy rd and cop comes the other way, flashes his headlights so i dim mine, but they are still adjusted a bit high so he does a U turn and comes after me.

i said i knew they were illegal and that im sorry, is there anything i can do but nup was a real asshole and just stuck the yellow on.

what makes things worse is now i have to save up, find and install a new gbox before i can go over the pits because im sure they wont look over the death rattle of second gear with a few missing teeth.

ruined my night. rant over. thanks for listening.

illegal hid's.... just asking for it mate. the cop was just doing is job, he's obviously not an 'asshole' as portrayed. cops have a hard job sometimes, and if they let everyone off, the law would never get enforced.

Sorry mate, but I kinda concur with Jezza. From your narrative, if he wanted to, in addition he coulda hit you up with a fine for failing to dip headlights + a fine under VSR's for (knowingly) having illegal mods. Instead he just issued a yellow which costs the least $$ & causes the owner to get the car back to legal.

Sorry, but you think it is ok to blind other on coming traffic users?

Had you not received a yellow, would you have honestly fixed it up ASAP, or just left it for a 'little bit longer as its ok'.

You play, you pay.

i know i should of adjusted em down before. was on the list of things to do.
they only got me for the mal-adjusted headlights.

its just annoying to go through the process of going over the pits etc. A warning would of motivated me enough to change em. ah well

Seems you've had time to reflect since last night, and have no choice but to cop it sweet.

Make sure you go through everything on the car & pressure wash it TWICE.
You don't want to get knocked back for something else minor.

I think when he referred to the cop as an 'arsehole' he was probably referring to his attitude. I've had a few tickets over the years and I've had cops who have been polite, courteous and professional & on the flip side I've had rudeness and arrogance when it's been completely unnecessary. They are public servants and yeah sometimes they have a tough time, but that's life. They don't like it, get a job which means they don't have deal with Joe Public.

This yellow sticker thing makes a mockery of the whole permit system.

A yellow is issued on the suspicion that something is not roadworthy so even with permits or on stock standard parts you can be issued a yellow....so why even bother trying to keep your car legal or getting permits?!

I also view yellow stickers like being assumed guilty until proven innocent when it should always be innocent until proven guilty. You cant arrest, charge, prosecute and gaol someone without evidence so why should I have to accept a yellow sticker and take time off work and spend my own money only to have the inspectors take one glance at the offending part, roll their eyes and rip the sticker off purely on an untrained persons say so?!?! How about you prove to me with evidence my car is illegal and then I will rectify it and go over the pits!!

Tip : NEVER admit to a police officer that you know something on your
car is illegal.

See above. He admitted guilt to the officer.

Agree. Blinding on coming traffic IS dangerous. An unpainted bonnet scoop is not (refer Damo's yellow sticker).

Have to agree the police officer actually did the right thing.
May have got away with a warning if you did not admit you knew it was
illegal. The cop cannot exactly ignore someone who pleads guilty in
front of them.
