Ahh a lively topic on the pros and cons of law enforcement.
Like any form of authority, some people get overly officious. Shopping centre security, motorsport official or police.
Whilst it is illegal to have head lights and fog lights on together, I think a warning by the boys in blue would be much more appropriate than a fine in most cases. Different story if someone was roaring along the road or came out of the last corner in a 4WD drift with tyres smoking and had both head lights and fog lights on. Quite a few years ago I copped a yellow sticker for one blown number plate light (the car had two). Funny thing was, the Police Commodore also had a blown number plate light. I still copped the sticker anyway.

Recently we were coming home from the Experts Cup rally. We drove through one of the small towns on S/W Hwy at 11PM and passed a patrol car at an intersection. One of our team who was towing home a dented rally car behind his ute was pulled over. Just a random license check. It was funny that the officers then asked about the rally car for the next 5 mins. We think they just wanted to have a look on a slow night.
