Ditto, hope your dog is OK. But as an owner it is your responsibility to keep it on your property.

Not to be a prick, but if it was the other way around, I'm sure you'd be asking for damages to fix your wrx.

Luckily still alive with scratch and bruises.

Is the guy able to claim damages? I should ask for him to pay for the vet bills!

Fair enough but if the car is only worth $4k and sending a bill of over $2k is steep.

Agreed. Make them get 3 quotes and you specify at least 1 or 2 of the places. At least you know that they aren't just getting a mate to do it and bumping it up to sting ya.

glad your dogs alright it doesn't take them long to to get back up and running around. how did the owner of the car come up with a 2g bill if they hit your dog due to neglegent driving like speeding or being intoxicated then they should at least offer to help pay. repair bills for cars can be expensive but so can vet bils

Thank! Yep, he is slowly recovering so should be back to his normal self soon.

I don't think the guy was pay much attention to the road as it was just a hit but my dog was dragged under too! Still can't believe he is still alive.. Thick head..

Looking at the quote the cost for the repair work and bumper is extrordinary.

Make him get 3 quotes.

Having been unlucky enough to whack a dog last year (which genuinely shook me at the time) I look back and realise

- had the dog been secure it would have never ran out into 70kmh taffic
- I wouldnt have dented my car.

If you were walking along and he mounted the footpath and hit your dog, they would be liable.

The fact that a dog was on the road and not leashed makes the registered owner liable for any damage caused to the car.

Make them get three quotes - one being a repairer of your choice and pay on the cheapest quote only.

Also ensure that you get to inspect the vehicle to ensure that you are not paying for past damage. If there is past damage only offer to pay a proportion of the cost based on the damage caused by the dog versus any previous damage.

Put everything in writing and DO NOT admit liability to anything until you are happy with the resultant costs to you. Get them to sign a letter, written by you, stating that payment of $x is FULL AND FINAL costs and liability for said dog accident.
