Hey,

i wanna get the plates 'CHIN' as its my last name but i dont think its worth paying $700 for .. i was told since chin is a part of my name, its considered a name plate and will cost me $700 or so, but if i add a few numbers or something else apart from JUST 'CHIN', it will only cost me $335 because its not directly from my name.

my question is .. could i get my mate to buy the 'CHIN' plates, and then have him "sell" them to me ridiculously cheap(or for nothing, just get him to first register them under hes name then swap the registration and ownership with me, having it under my name).

i see nothing wrong with this idea, but the thing is, would i still have to pay $700 or so to register it in my name, or is it only $700 or so for me to PURCHASE plates with a part of my name on it?

smart idea? or am i not seeing any obvious obstacles?

Pretty sure you can do it but he will have to sign a "right to display" form allowing you to use them on your car..... Bit of F*&kin around really, better off doin what JDM Style suggested IMO..... Good luck

Yeah i was thinking 'CH1N' but if i can get 'CHIN' this way then why not? ide go for it if this 'plan' cant be done.

Yeah i didnt know that plates with the same name as you actual name would cost so much until i asked the other day, i was like thats soo gay. i remember reading on the actual DPI licence plate application that plates can be sold for any price or something like that .. thats what gave me this idea.

i wanna ask DPI but ill feel a bit uneasy asking if its ok if i cheat their system .. thats how i see it.
