Old thread, but....

why do HID lights blind oncoming traffic?
is it just because people use the blue lights, and not the white or yellow ones?
or is it because there is soo much more light energy emitted?

i have blue HID's in my CG8 at the moment (already installed in the car when i bought it), and want to change back to white lights.
am i able to keep the HID lights and just buy white HID globes?
any suggestions on where to buy them?

thanks, Steve.

yeah, you can get HID lamps rated for a lower colour temp.

6000K would be pretty close to pure white. But Id recommend 4500K. Will have a slight yellow tint to it, but you get more actual usable light and you'll be less likely to blind oncoming motorist and you wont be Cop bait.

the reason they are blinding is because HID are suppose to be discharged into a projector housing by design.

Its caused by people putting hid bulbs into reflector housings that are by design for halogen lamps to refract light and provide more light than a standard halogen can provide. HID light then refracts as well due to the nature of the reflector lenses in the lights and that causes the light to scatter all over, rather than being projected, hence they blind.

End of the day no matter what hid bulb you use it will still be blinding. Temp only really affects the colour of light emitted.

Yeah the 300C has pretty intense lights, HID's for sure.

Probably don't have levellers? Although .. I don't run levellers either, but have projector lenses ..

You can kinda see from my avatar the angle of which they aim.

Yeah if you can't afford to upgrade to projector headlights don't bother doing it. Your just going to blind oncoming traffic and you won't get the real benefits anyways.
