Little bit of speaker advice
Hi everyone,
Okay I'm thinking of doing some mild stereo upgrades....and need a bit of advice I know I can fit some standard sized splits in the front with spacers to clear the windows, but the rear speakers are my concern... My question is, is there anything that will fit straight into the rear doors, or do I need to cut bigger holes?? I did a search and didn't really come up with any satisfactory answers...some say you can fit up to 5.25" in the rears, others say leave the stock 4" speakers where they are? Thanks Last edited by BALISTC; 31-01-2008 at 11:28 AM. |

I would say, leave th standard's in there, cap them, use them as rear fillers with them turned right down... no need for speakers back there anyway, what do you care what it sounds like in the back... as long as there is a party up front
That deck work Joe? also, to answer ur questions, you can buy 4" aftermarket speakers.. if thats ur thing, you'll probably find you can fit 5&1/4" in there too, without too much headache. depth will not be a problem Last edited by ImPreSiV; 31-01-2008 at 12:07 PM. |

How serious an upgrade are you talking Joe?
If its just a deck, then leave the stockers in there - they perform admiradbly with the extra power from an aftermarket head unit. If your going serious, ie amps etc, id get some 5.25 inch ones to replace them. The reason you dont get definite answers is because each brand has different mounting depths etc.

I have JBL 5-1/4" 2 ways in my rear doors. Went in no problems.

Pretty sure that the rears are 5-1/4" and depth is not a issue as with the front as the rear windows don't go all the way down.
IMO some sort of spacer will be required as Subaru dont mount the speakers flush with the sheetmetal.

Kym, deck works great thanks mate
I'm looking at putting in an MP3/iPod compatible deck, a 4 channel amp, a 12" sub in box and some front splits....so might look at some matching speakers in the rear. 2 way's arent that pricey anyway, so it might be worth the upgrade. Going to go all Alpine gear too, as I can get good deals on it. |

Sacman, when Daz did my stereo upgrade he told me not to waste my money on rears. Good splits and dynamat up front running with an amp and a sub. Run rears off head unit at a lower volume for fill and the people in the back. Worked a treat for me
Definetly line your front doors, u'd be amazed at the performance increase for $ outlayed 0.2c worth Last edited by stinga; 31-01-2008 at 12:30 PM. |

Sweet FA, I would say less than a kilo?? not enough to worry about for the sound quality it gives IMO. Plus the doors don't bang and clang when you close em either
