If you have issues relating to engine noise (ie RPM) then you have a bad earth somewhere, 100%
Did you use all new cables?? Did you solder and wrap all joins with electrical tape? Did you run any wires through a hinged area of the car? (ie folding rear seats) Is the head unit/amp earthed to a part of the chassis and not some random earth you found behind where the head unit sits? If this is the case, and I would suggest it is even without seeing it, PLEASE re-run an earth and solder it, or at the very least pinch the end of the wire under an unpainted bolt/screw you find behind the head unit or around the front seats. It really sounds to me like you've got the earth (-ve) of the head unit/amp connected to the earth running from the ignition barrel or a dirty connection. If this turns out to be good then somewhere along the line you've got a bad earth from one of the cables you've run. Also make sure you're +ve and -ve power cables are of the same diameter from and to the amp

yeah but guys i havent changed any of the amp at all. all existing wiring was a-ok on the old headunit. only difference is i have put a new headunit in.
maybe i need filter of somesort? also not just rpm but a general static noise and terrible humming when the lights are turned on. so in short no issues... install new head unit ONLY and get issues with interference caused by the amplifier. did have the headunit earthed in the factory loom like the old headunit, changed this to a body earth and no difference was made. You fitted a pioneer unit? Sounds like you may have damaged the ground on the rca outputs, pioneers are prone to dropping rca ground's because of a little fused link on the circuit board, this can usually be blown when a unit is used whilst having a poor ground, the headunit tries to use the rca grounds as an earth, thus leading to problems. To check this you need to disconnect the headunit completely, and with a multimeter check the continuity between the rca shields and the case of the unit.

to update this I used a ground loop isolator to stop hiss buzz etc. perfecto.. however now the head unit will only work (properly) if faded to left fully or right fully. center does not work properly it just phases out the sound. obviously it is the ground loop isolator because it doesnt do this when not connected. any new ideas?
