Exclamation Rim PAINTING

Hey all,

When I had my rims repaired and repainted, a few people suggested a place NEAR alliance rim repairs for painting the rims, I had the repair and painting done at alliance and the paint finish looked ok, until the paint started to crack and peel away from them not being undercoated.

I've been racking my brains trying to think of the place some of you guys recommended to get the painting done, PLEASE HELP as they need repainting, its all peeling away.

Josh

Speak to Daz from technic, he just had his gun metal oz's redone & they looked good. Only a few runs here and there, nothing too noticeable.

I'm going to get a couple of my gold ones done by him when he has time. He doesn't normally do customer work I think so best speaking with Daz.

Preparation of a surface is the key of any paint longevity. Any decent panel beater would prepare the surface and using two-pack and a clear coat afterward. You are looking between $30-50 with a respectable professional.

Might be worth having them bead blasted to get ALL the old paint off before taking them to be painted, otherwise you will be paying the painter to strip them or even worse he may just rub them back & paint over the old stuff & you end up with the same problem 6 months down the track & you'll probably find that alliance used acrylic because it is faster & cheaper to use & if that is the case you can not put 2 pac paint over it only vice versa.

OH..no, bead blast would leave you with a harsh surface and more work to get it smooth not mentioning the cost of doing so. Use mineral paint striper and wouldn’t get any cleaner.

A fine bead blast would only leave a very small amount of very fine pitting which would give a good surface for the 2 pack primer to stick to, also it is very thick paint so by the time it was primed, painted then laquored there would be no evidence of any pitting but it would be best to ask someone like Tom who has a panell shop over the road from Jap Wholesale & paints rims for Darren all the time.

I want to get my track wheels powder coated or painted black, any good places to try? I tried Alliance and they are basically too busy at the moment to take any private work!
