As for if its normal or not....no
I have a couple of head units with USB capability and they do not miss a beat...ever.

^^^ might be worth trying another memory stick.

dodgy cord, dust in the USB connection on the deck, dust in the USB stick you are using.. get a air compressor with air gun on the end and spray it all

Check the lead - Wriggle it around to see if you can get it to fault.
USB - Ensure that the contacts are clean and that it is firmly in place, the cheaper usb sticks over time don't lock into place as well as they did when first purchased.
Headunit - Try other USB sticks and make it fault with the new one. Also check the contacts or the connection (if there is an USB extension) of the USB Input.

I know I may be irrelevant but the format of the files can effect the performance of the unit, for this you will have to check with a dealer of pioneer or the user manual. (Don't expect to much from the dealer as you purchased it online.

Nah lead is all good already tried the wiggle trick...there is virtually no play.

I have tried two USBs already both cleaned as well....

Spoke to Pioneer support who said it is probably significant lateral forces causing the USB key to temporarily lose contact....

They recommended to use a smaller USB key but the one in there is already tiny....

I'll clean the contacts again and monitor it over the next day or so....

Cheers for the help fellas....i know its only a small issue but annoying since its a brand new unit....

EDIT: Also, does anyone know why i can't post replies in the For Sale section? How many posts do i need?

if the deck lights up the way it does when you insert the stick then you can bet its dodgy contact. I would ask the manufactuer to repair if it was a brand new deck. If the fact you brought it off ebay stops them from touching it then anybody who is handy with a soldering iron can sort it in 5 mins flat
