Default subwoofer problems : S

hey guys some help is required i helped my mate install a pdx 1.600 amplifier into his 04 wrx the other day i have checked all the connections there all correct so no probs with loose wires or anything we are running the amplifier at 3/4 gain with the low pass filter at half and subsonic frequencies off the gain voltage setting is at 1.0 - 8.0v the sub we are running is a pioneer ts w 300 i think the max output is around 1200w and the amps rms rating is 600w rms so should run it quiet easily but we have very low bass well below what i expected any tips or hints would be helpful as before he had a cheap kenwood sub and a ebay amplifier boss brand and this pumped hard

thanks

Have you tried the 0.1v-1.0v setting? (turn the rotary gain dial to it's lowest setting to try it.)

Turn all filters off.

Is the sub 180 degrees out of phase? (swap + & - on the sub to see)

Good luck!

Assuming a few points but:

Put headunit at 80% approx volume/output gain.
With amp output off - adjust amp imput gain to just get clip light to light - attenuate gain slightly down to have NO clip light.
Adjust amp output gain to as loud as possible without overexcursion of speakers.
Turn headunit down to lower gain - adjust subsonic to just below port frequency if ported enclosure or approx 25-30Hz for sealed enclosure.

If sub is out of phase best to swap speakers wires to check.

As Simon said check for HU sub gain. Set as close to 0dB or nuetral as possible.

This may be a silly question, but have you checked all earth connections? if he hasnt earthed to bare metal then this may cause a weak circuit and result in not 100% performance from the sub.

Ignore this if you have already checked the earth O_o Good luck.

Another silly question, but is the bass on the head unit turned up? Some wingnut turned mine down to half way while trying to get the iPod controls to work and the sub wasn't audible at all until I turned it back up.

Thanks to all the replys I will be attempting all the solutions every ones recomended tonight and will keep you all posted

I don't think it is a matter of out of phase as in this situation we would end up with phase cancellation meaning there would be no sound so I'm quiet sure that isn't it

But will try all the tips above any way
