Sound Deadening
Hi guys and gals,
Ok probably a weird question since most of us want to strip stuff out to go faster, but I'm trying to research ways of reducing road noise in my X. Long story short, I want to breath some new life into the car and as it is used as my daily, I would like to keep it 'comfortable'. I'm running quiet tyres (Kuhmo KU39's) which has cut a lot of the noise out, but looking for any other ideas. Added weight isn't an issue as I am no lightweight myself :P Dynamat will help reduce panel vibrations, but from what I've read it doesn't decrease the road noise a lot. I would think a thicker foam would insulate the sound more or some form of additional lining on the tyre guards. Any ideas would be great or if anyone knows someone who can do the work. Cheers!

Talk to Soksta's wife. She seems good at reducing noise!

John,
i reckon the dynamatt is ace. I have treated my huilux to some, as like you I cant find anything worth upgrading to and wanted to breathe some new life into it. I had originally done all 4 doors inside and out mainly for imprroved stezza performance (big difference) but have now done the complete floor from firewall to rear bulkhead. Bit of a ballache to strip the interior, but good result. Has definitely made it a nicer place to be.

Road noise-
First consider tyres, you've done that. Check that the windows wind-up tight. Next soundproofing -I have had reasonable improvement from Dynamat. I 'd be tempted to use a thicker cheaper brand. Other- Hot dog in the exhaust - I have a 3" to go at a very low price! - reckon on ~2db reduction - not much. Exhaust - these vary considerably. |

Yeah, exhaust isn't an issue. It is a JASMA rated HKS Legamax.
I know it's not going to be a whisper quiet place, just trying to remove some of the harsh road noise on long journeys. Or I could just turn the stereo up, but meh
