Subwoofer wiring question
Hi, I have 4ohm dual voicecoil sub that I'm hooking up to a 2ohm amp. The sub has a + and - connector on each side.
My question is does it matter if I wire from the amp + to the sub + on one side (let's call it 'left') and then across to the other side + (right) and then do the exact same for the - connecting on the same sides in the same order or do I need to alternate the left and right connections? Eg from amp + to sub + (left) and then sub + (right). But connect amp - to sub - (right) then sub - (left). Thanks |

Took about 5 seconds to find...
Use two short lengths of wire for crossing the inputs at the sub.

Hate to throw a spanner here but, assuming a stereo amp, then isn't the preferred method to run each coil off a single channel. Bridging never really develops twice the power and also just means less dampening.
To get really tricky you run one coil out of phase and swap the input? Or is that an AC trick only? Or am I not helping here?

We need the OP to specify brand and model of amplifier to ascertain if Craig's diagram is appropriate.

Thanks all.. I had googled it and seen diagrams showing one way and youtube vids showing the other and wondered if it made a difference. I assume that as long at the +'s are linked and the -'s are linked then the order wouldn't matter?
I'm running a Pioneer GM-D8601 amp @ 2ohms and Rockford Fosgate P2D4-12 4ohm DV sub. Last edited by CSXI; 01-07-2015 at 03:43 PM. |

Had a look at that amp, due to the terminal block having two positives and two negatives you wont even need to group anything together. Just wire it as you see it, positives to positives, negatives to negatives. Just treat having dual voice coils like having two speakers in your instance -
