Default painting

i did mine last week and also my eyelids. kept the black bit black, did this because the paint will never look exactally the same as the rest of the body and therefore breaks it up so it is less noticable. i bought all my paints from a automotive place on balcatta road near the turn off to the rubbish dump. he was pretty good with advice on 'how to' had all the proper tapes primes and cleaning stuff. he made up a sic black with a blue pearl in it which i painted my front reflectors in and the middle bit of my headlights.

"2. To do it yourself you need a special paint additive in the colour matched
spray pack to allow the paint to move with the rubber. "

did you get a rough quote how much the additive would be extra?

It is basically impossible to get them off without breaking them.

I had to buy 2 new ones. From memory they were only about $15 ea but that was a long time ago.

The mud flaps are tricky, however all you need to add is some paint elasticiser to your paint/thinner mix. This will help it to flex.

The mud flaps are difficult as the rubber may have absorbed things that hinder paint..ie Armour-all etc this will not adhere well.

Make sure you put on clear coat (multiple thin coats) to stop rock chips.

I recently painted my V6 sti lip..very happy with the results, cost bugger all.

just a point of interest, it seems to come up alot, ppl saying just ask for this colour code XXX and she'll be right, no i'm not sure about the custards but the WRC blue has about 15-20 variations to the one colour code, (service colours for those playing along at home) so if you simply ask for 74F or what ever it is, u might get something a little bit off colour..

Done 1 side so far:

Does anybody know how the rear pods come off the bumper? Does the whole bumper have to come off? Just had a quick look but couldn't work it out

Cheers
Scott.

Ok well if u are talking about the lower rear pods im pretty sure there are 2 clips underneath the car. I am missing one to be honest and its annoying me now. All you have to do is push them upwards i believe (correct me if im wrong) and they should pop up, and the rear skirts should come loose.
