Russ: Yes, cooling is an important aspect. But this has been discussed previously already.

I have a 06 STi here having its heads rebuilt due to overheating issues. This vehicle was modified with Cosworth components and tuned at another place. TBH, I will be more concerned getting my coolant temps down. I realise that tuners seldom adjust their dual stage thermo fans on a tune. This is where we gain the extra hp compared to other tuners, especially with upgrade silicon hoses, thermostat and radiator.

In the above, the thermo fan was factory default to turn on at 95deg, causing the headgaskets to blow. Will post more pics and info up soon.
95 deg is nowhere near close enough to pop a head gasket on a EJ Mao?

I find it hard to communicate sometimes on the forum as it is difficult to convey what I know, but I will try my best. Putting words down to derive an understanding has proved quite a challenge for me.

Very good point. I will take this chance to emphasise the importance of cooling.

The factory sets the thermo fans to turn on at 95deg, while turning them off at 90deg of watertemp. Flash tuning the vehicle to run higher boost is the norm. On higher boost the motor will not tolerate this in the long run esp an STi above 1.4bar of boost.

Subaru and most manufacturers are bound to this temp due to emissions for complete combustion.

On our tunes, we set the thermos to run at 85deg, prolonging engine life, while allowing consistent torque and hp.

I run my evo at 80deg using a Billion fan controller. The Aussie heat tends to extend up to the 40s, and I allow my own vehicle to run at 76deg on cruise, and when I need the power, it goes up to 83deg allowing optimum power when I need it. I have logged this on Evoscan for a number of years now and the engine performance is kept optimum.

I spend hours logging on the both open ecu and on the dyno, and allowing cooler temps on the engine is always a plus.

PM sent.

Stop effectively saying that other tuners do not know what they are doing.
Your comment that they seldom adjust the thermo effectively reads like they
either they don't know about this or simply don't bother if they do.

You don't know what others may or may not know or their operations.
You are not the only one who knows how to do this.

Peddle your wares and services as much as you like, but stop commenting
on other tuners skills and practices. You wouldn't like it if they did it to you.

You are taking it too deep. I did not say others do not know what they are doing.
Anyhow, will leave 'other tuners' out' as it is offending. Edited to suit.

Edit: It is obvious also what the same group of people are trying to do and I will delete their posts as necessary.

Never been shy to accuse other tuners in the past...

My question about images was a genuine one considering I was cornered by someone in the past about it.

Ok, I make it a point to ask customers if I do show their number plates as I have been cornered in the past. Can be seen in the Exedy clutch thread about a year ago.

Edit: This is a Evo R workshop service thread, so PM me instead if you have questions concerning licence plates and other tuners.
