New GMAX lightweight wheel will be releasing shortly. Weight is at 6.7kg per wheel and available as 17x8 +45. Color will be launching in Gunmetal. P.WRX Price $750/set of 4.

Hey Mao,

Sorry for the stupid question but.... generally speaking would dropping to a narrower 8 inch rim versus an 8.5 be detrimental to handling overall particularly if I am tracking the car regularly? The new rims will be wrapped in R-spec rubber for competition use only.

Are they available 17x8.5 - GMAX Matrix?

What size rubber can you fit under there without scrubbing?

Fill the guards for track work you reckon? The reason I ask is I've been told that going much wider than OEM track induces torque steer/tram lining. Not sure if it will be an issue for track events though? Have to rely on the opinions/experiences of others here.

What works better the wider wheel with narrower track? Or the narrower wheel with wider track? I've checked a few wheel calculators and they are saying the 8 inch +45 offset will be slightly wider than OEM track ( 8.5 +55 offset ). Or should I be going for 17 x 9 and filling those guards right up?

Sorry - serial pest.

Cheers

Nick 8.5 will fit 265 tyres. I think 8 is ideal.

Get as much rubber in there as you can. I think the tram lining is more due to the squareness of the rcomps but that won't bother you on the track. Never heard of torque steer on a awd being a drama.

Mao, I don't think 265s are going to fit on an 8 inch, I've got 245s on 8s and that is their limit, they already look a bit balloony at the side walls.

Nick, speak to John fowler at Wheels world as if your getting r comps you'll be getting them from him and he'll advise on rim / tyre size to fit your car.

Yeah I have dealt with John before great service and advice always given.

I have 245 AD08's from John on my 8.5's at the moment and they are running dead vertical sidewalls - Yokohama are a big chunky tyre no doubt. I think the tyre/rim combo will always vary depending what brand you use.

Thanks for your input guys.

yeah 8.5s are perfect for the 245s although the 8s pose no dramas performance wise, they just look a bit tractor spec but are great at offering a bit of protection from kerb rash!

For a my10 sti I would be running 255's or so Rcomps. Why go skinny? Those cars can take heaps of tyre!

Okay then,

John @ WW agrees you hellaflushboyz and go for 17x9 +45 as this has been used on several Betty's already, and gives ample clearance to the strut/coilover with a 255 tyre and no guard scrubbing issues.

Mao are these new Matrix available in 17x9 +45 please?
If not, do you have anything in that fitment for the budget conscious like myself available?

Cheers,

Sorry for partial thread highjack...
