Great win by Jenson. After the drive through I was waiting for some entertainment from Hamilton.

Does anyone have a technical article on how the DRS activation system works? i.e. trying to work out how they 'swtich it on'.

It's automatic, when in the DRS zone and less than 1 second behind the car infront!

Only the KERS is switchable on and off (or push to pass as the yanks say!)

Sure about that? Commentators last night mentioned that Webber had activated late when chasing Hamchops...

Doesn't mean they are right but seems crazy to have it automatically open regardless of the situation in front of the car.

^^ this is what I'm trying to find out.

If it is automatic, what triggers it? GPS, track sensor, electromagnetic waves, lasers pew pew?

I was under the belief it is 'available' automatically and then the driver had to push the button to activate it. But I'm trying to work out how they make it available, as I'm sure the system will have to fail for someone during a race (Red Bull and KERS for instance).

I heard them say its a switch behind the steering wheel. So that way it cant be triggered on accidentily and its cancelled by touching the brakes. Kinda like a kickass cruise control.

My understanding is they have a button on the wheel which activates it, but the system has a few interlocks that need to be met before it will operate, like not pressing the brake pedal and race control giving you permission to use it.

So during qualifying the race control signal is always on, but during the race it will only be on for the designated straight.

I think that was the way they wordrd it but i am 90% sure that it is automatic when in the activation zone and less than 1 second behind

It automatically primes when under 1 second in the detection zone.

Driver still needs to activate it.
