Default Connecting my Xbox 360 to the Network

Hi

I am having trouble setting up my 360 to the net, bascally my set up at home is my up stairs computer is connected to the downstairs comp (Next to the Router) via Wireless. And my Xbox is upstairs next to the Computer, so i was wondering if it was possible to use an ethernet cable directly to the upstairs comp so it can share network from it, saving me having to get a wireless adapter for the 360. If this is possible how do i go about setting this up.

Cheers
Craig

hey dude should have no probs with that, just check to see what type of cable your using, a crosover (connects one computer to another usauly red) or the blue cable for computer to router

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...etup/xbox.mspx
give that a try - from the makers them selves

or this one maybe

If IP Address is failing, ensure you have DHCP running on your network. Most people will have this enable on their router.

DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) ensures that devices plugged onto the network obtain IP Addressing automagically.

You can plug your Xbox into your comp upstairs, however you'll need an additional network card in the PC, and you'll need to bridge the connections i believe - This would be an uncommon setup.

It would be easiser to buy a 5 port switch or something, plug the ethernet cable coming up from downstairs into the switch, and plug both the Xbox and PC into the switch too.

5 port switch = $29 or somethin.

And cosidering you have a router, i'd say DHCP is already enabled .. You're just not getting the Xbox onto the network correctly to obtain a lease.

Yep cool .. So just sort out your network connectivity, and you'll be sweet.

The cable coming UP from downstairs is plugged into the router yeah? If so, just buy a cheapie switch, put it upstairs, connect your Ethernet cable to it, ensure you get a link, and then plug your PC and Xbox into the switch.

I could do a network diagram for you, but i'm tied down at work!
