Default PS3 Blinking light of death

Hey people

Was watching a movie and ps3 decided to turn off and beep and then flash the red light (power indicator) continuesly, reset the ps and started movie again and the after 3 or 4 min has done the same process. HAs anyone had the same problem and any resolutions as i rang sony directly and they advised it would cost $250 to repair and now im thinking maybe save for a new one....

If you're not going to take it apart I don't understand what the purpose of this thread is for.

Your only options re: red ring of death etc are to:

- Open it up;
- Get someone else to open it up; or
- Buy a new one.

There are lots of Xbox/PS3 modders etc in the papers etc that would be able to give this ago, unfortunately I doubt there would be any guarantees.

May as well give it a go before buying a new one?

i have the same problem. mine is a 40gb 1st gen. Turns off at about 20 minutes into a game, so its been sitting there collecting dust until i can decide what to do with it. However it does last quite a while on a cool day with a fan blowing at it. EB games will take it, but only for $50.

Is the fan actually working, or is it logged with dust?

Just go grab an el-cheapo portable fan and angle it across the vents.
