Importing a WRX from over east.
Who know that moving a car from one state to another would be so fucking complicated. Basically i'll need some advice from people that have done this before / people in the know how. After a bit of reading up i see i have two options.
1. Fly over there, get a qld lisence, take ownership of the car, pay transfer fees, bring it back, everyone is happy. 2. Buy the car, de reg it over there, send it on a train over here, re reg it in WA. The only problem i can see with this route is the pits as this car has a few mods to it, half cage, fmic ect. Basically i need your advice, thanks guys. Steve.

I think you will find you can buy the car on the wa licence and move over here.. A drivers licence is only a proof of id.. For the purpose of buying a car..
However you will still have to take it over the pits here within a month of it arriving..

and you dont have to de rego it til it gets here either i'm pretty sure. but in both option i believe it still has to go over the pits

Hi I bought my Zed from NSW and had it shipped over. It was pretty straightforward. I organised a RAC check, the freight company (Autotrans) picked up the car and delivered it to my door (Cost $1100). It still had the NSW plates and was therefore still in the previous owners name and to get it in my name it had to go over the pits, there was no getting out of it. It was a little bit of hassle but I got the exact car I wanted and significantly cheaper than in WA. The first option you listed sounds like a pain in the @rse, but it could be your only option if you're thinking it could fail when it goes over the pits. Is the car heavily modified?

I did the same thing as perthzed with my v6 sti, but it ran out of rego on the way over and i just drove it down to the pits anyway lol. They where a bit funny about that but i was like "uh oops" and they let me get away with it

i bought my car of ebay about this time last year from NSW. it had rego till Nov so i drove it around for about 2 months before going to pits to put into my name. (couldnt transfer it as i didnt have a NSW drivers license and never went over to see it) When i got to the pits i was told the rego was void due to the fact i couldnt transfer an interstate rego. I had to go get a permit to drive it so they would test drive it around the block.

Bought my 31 out of Melbourne.
Derego it, and just permit it when it gets here. Make sure you have real proof of ownership ie a contract etc, because its the first thing they ask for when you take the car in. No proof = alot of dramas
