Default 2008 Sti Price?

I thought the price of the 08 Sti was going to be similar to the current price and under the luxury car tax of $57K, I've just read in a magazine and in a newspaper that the projected price is now between $60K and $70K. Not sure what you guys think of the price hike, but this puts the Sti up against some different opposition. Audi TT, S3, Golf R32, 350z, BMW M1 (out next yr) and most importantly the EVO X. I think from what I've read from all the media reports/reviews so far on the Evo, it is going to be an awesome machine and unlike previous models will have a half decent interior and a nice looking exterior. So for me it ticks all the boxes, whereas the IX really didn't do it for me, from an asethetic point of view anyway. The STi sounds like it's not going to be as quick as the EVO and it certainly won't look as good, but if Subaru can make it 10K cheaper, then it's going to be game on, similar price then it won't be pretty. I think even diehard subi fans would be jumping ship.

It might be, I got $57K from ATO site:

"The car limit is also used to determine the luxury car tax threshold, which for 2007-08 has been increased to $57,123.

Cars with a GST-inclusive value above $57,123 may be subject to luxury car tax on the portion of their value exceeding that figure.

Luxury car tax is a tax of twenty five per cent imposed on luxury cars and is generally payable when a car is sold or imported."

They look ok, but there are plenty of cars I would rather own for around 65k...

"The Tax Office announced today the car limit, which is used to work out certain deductions for motor vehicles, has increased to $57,123 for the 2007-08 financial year.

The car limit is indexed annually in line with movements in the motor vehicle purchase sub-group of the Consumer Price Index. In 2006-07 the car limit was $57,009".

They are sooooooo generous upping the amount $114, now I have another number to remember - Fucktards

should have left as is for that amount on a car!

Why would you put the 350z as a choice?

60k-70k theyre dreaming.

Thats a 20k markup on a wrx, its highly debatable the STi is worth 20k more than a wrx.

I'd say they stick around the 57k mark like the original definitely under 60k. They would be stupid to go over that line into BMW and Audi territory theyre kidding themselves if they believe theyre on par with the germans yet.

It's a performance car in similar price bracket to STI.

An STi for that price, I'd be seriously looking for other options, the price hike from the WRX is far too much, and the current WRX is not selling that well.
