Send parental units down instead of younger folks (assumption that they are younger folks)?

Apply to DPI for a permit for a straight cut box prior to going to pits?

Get it checked at a Subaru workshop to ensure it isn't stupidly loud for another reason. Also ask if there is any oil that can quieten it down.

Sell box, buy stock box.

It's not even a dogbox Teejay, just a normal old synchromesh PPG with stock 5th......

I'm bewildered as to how they deem it unroadworthy. Surely tractors, trucks etc make lots more gear noise. In my opinion it's no different to years ago when people used alloy timing gears in Holden 6 cylinders for durability instead of the troublesome fibre gears that failed regularly. The noise is slightly higher than stock but it's not over the legal db limit (I've driven the car in question)

It works at S Technic, can't see why it wouldn't work at the pits....!

So is a car stereo, but they don't fail you for that........

If the PPG gearset is the last remaining thing on the list that the car has failed for I would firstly get a letter from PPG's tech department stating that the gears are not an unroadworthy modification thay are simply a heavy duty gear to suit the original case etc.

Then contact the DPI tech department and clarify whether heavy duty gears need (or are even able) to be permitted. Get that in writing and re-present it. Any further resistance from the examiner should be asked for in writing, as it's bordering on harassment.

Since they are the pits, if they can't approve something they should be able to put in writing which section of the ADR's (or whatever standard) it is failing to comply with.

If they can't say what it doesn't comply with, then surely they must pass it?
