I have a 99 with a catback and filter and i raced a 89 SHTR gtr off the lights on a cruise once. I hit the brakes at about 170 and he was still a carlength behind. He had filters and exhaust.

Alot comes down to the driver But yes i concur, mod for mod, stocker for stocker GTR should defiantly win.

the early model GTs before the GTR 32MODEL, have a 6 cylinder 2litre, about 157kw and about 260nm, a 2.6 GTR is another story, i think the japs rated all the GTR the same kw but with an increase in nm as the models changed, yet they faster and faster around a track as time went on.....Jme cherry rocket was givern that R33 GTR a good touch around wanneroo track...and every thing else....a R35 GTR would nice in my shed.....

I would back an sti in a "closed road" race from say Ciccerellos Fish and Chips in Freo to the WACA in Perth. In a street situation the sti would roll the GTR. Throw in a significent freeway run and the story is different. Not many places where you can do more than 200 in the metro area, freeway maybe, Canning or Stirling hwy...no.

I was beside one today, it was a R34 GTST and I killed it, and as you can see I have a heavy bastard MY01.

When I said I was beside one today, of course I mean I was beside one today at the motorplex

A GTST is not a GTR.
Not all GTRs are RB26 are they? Didn't the R32s come with the RB25?

I'd call that a pretty straight run....jump on South St, Fwy North, Riverside drive, therefore I think the GTR would win it.

I'd say Osborne Park Special Stage as a better comparison between the 2

I think the problem is trying to compare apples with apples. In the form that most GTR's arrive in australia they are already at a stage where most have at least $10k mods. Some much more. So to get the equivalent performance out of a WRX you would need to buy an already modded example or spend $10k.

To answer the question above... I think at the super modded end of town the GTR will probably still own. I mean, I have a 2.5 and a fair sized turbo and stuff and my car kept up with that GTR in perth street car a while ago, the purple speckled one. However, he woulda chopped me if we had gone too much faster than the XXX we reached. Hes not even running his full boost yet though. So if he was running more than the 14psi I think he was, hed waste me good and proper. I think you need to spend a stupid amount on a WRX to compete with a GTR thats come from japan and has had 4 owners spend $20k each on it.

I think if a GTR chops me bad i'll just call Tino for backup. "now that youve beaten my 2.5, you advance to the next level"
