GC much lighter. Id be looking for a GC8 with a 2.5ltr conversion and 6 speed (DCCD or not) for track work. Check over East or Japan for unregisted cars that you could possibly b-rego.

That or id scrap the wrx idea and get a r32 gtr from japan unregisted and throw it on the track under b-rego. Not 100% sure how registering such cars goes though :P.

EDIT: From reading brendans post, b regoing a car sounds sorta difficult

no right or wrong way with all this blair.

its good that your feeling out for various opinions and its awesome that people with valued experiences have shared them with you.

like everything else it boils down to a personal preference over rationality

if i was in your shoes i would do the following.

i would leave your car as is. taking a perfectly good road car and turning it into a race car is just plain dumb...

if buying a motorsport only car aim for something uinque with great potential for further improvement that responds well to simple bolt-ons.

weapons of choice include any s series, S202 especially

ultra-light weight for a GDA with all the refinements over the gc8 which would offset the cost if having to upgrade brakes and six speed gearbox later on.

websites like these in japan are a good starting point, gives you a rough idea of what's around and what prices to pay.

good luck, can't wait to see what you decide on!

Apologies if it's already been covered but I did not read the 7 pages of threads.
There is a WRX wagon in the PWRX for sale section that's already B reg'd and partially prepped for cheap. Has a sunroof, so it would be worth removing it and skinning the roof. Was ~$7K from memory? Cheap, good basis. Getting B reg can be a pain.

Only problem with that is that you cant then race targa tassie / targa west etc as it has to be standard. Agreed blair said he does not want to race those sort of things just yet but if he wants to sell it one day then the dude that buys it might.
