Except the word budget no longer means "cheap" it means never ending

Great fun - but finding a clean one that isnt eaten by rust is a challange. Full rust cut out and paint is going to be 5k plus alone.

Add a conversion done properly with all the brakes and suspension and your a long way past any 20k Gc8 build.

You may already be doing this but have you considered getting involved as a volunteer with the service crew for an existing race or rally team to gain more experience? If your not a member already maybe join the WASCC? Easiest, and cheapest, way to gain more experience working on racecars, and it gets you into the paddocks/service parks on a regular basis where you can make good contacts. Can have your project car as well.
Just a thought. Best of luck with the degree. Wish they'd had someting like that when I started my engineering degree.

Have you looked into the new F-SAE team at ECU? The uni is pumping heaps of resources into the project, but it doesn't guarantee you a drive but the learning is worth it.

Why spend your money when you can spend the unis??

UWA have good relationship with the very supportive guys at WASCC and have competed in some of their events with the little yellow race cars. Along with that are the contacts with the competitors and sharing of knowledge.

Cheap plug, UWA will be competing at AHG on Sunday, come by for a look

Brendon, your a legend! Thats the reply i was waiting for. Some of those questions are definately things i need to consider a bit more...

Im really only thinking No Limits, AHG-type stuff at the moment, purely due to me complete lack of track experience.

I have plenty of room to store it here at home. Car port area out the back thats just being taken up with the old mans crap at the moment, so wouldnt be hard to clear space. This is also more than enough room to do any work on it too.

Transport would be a small issue. Ive got the Land Cruiser to pull the trailer, but no trailer. But then again, if its only out to Wanneroo and back, it couldnt hurt to drive.

As far as being midfield or out front, well im not doing the racing to win right now. Im doing it to learn. To build skill and knowledge. So being stuck midfield isnt going to bother me.

And as far as money to run it and fix it, well i guess that depends on the damage i do and how much i actually get out and race Bit hard to say right now. Finances are something im still looking into

AIG: I have thought about that, and i am in the process of trying to sort something out. John Hurney from the WASCC actually presents some of our lectures at uni, so i'll be hitting him up with a few questions about it all as soon as i can.

fffffred: The F-SAE has been mentioned in the lectures already and all i have to do is say the word and im in. Havent looked into much just yet, my thinking being that if the 30 other people in my class do the same thing, there isnt going to be much for us all to do. So im looking at other avenues first.

Chee: The course is good so far, but i cant really tell you how worth while it is yet, as it is only week 2. Ask me again at the end of semester

Thanks guys,
Blair.

Is Habibi still running this? I would have loved to do this as a double with engineering, but it started the year after i graduated. Had to choose income instead of being a professional student lol
