Spoke to Sean, changed to Platinums, so far so good .. AFR's sweet, pickup this arvo and see how we go 'eh!

RUSSGT 16-01-2009 10:43 AM

Well done man! Keep in touch eh!

RichX 17-01-2009 11:34 AM

Fuckin .. Issue remains with the brand new Platinums .. Back to ASG next week it is! I think Coilpacks are next on the cards.

Gonna try and go for a run with Sean in the car ..

Gonna pickup some new 10w40 this arvo too, get some new oil and a filter change done. This problem is seriously doing my head in but i am not giving up till it's fixed Even if i have to put a 207 in.

PRODIGY 17-01-2009 12:46 PM

sorry to hear you still have the issue Rich, sounded promising that all was fixed.. :(

Have you tried the cheapest option yet?

Pimpreza 17-01-2009 02:19 PM

One thing you may want to try is better earthing, Subi's aren't the best, so go to SuperCrap & buy a couple of their straps (actually really good quality) stick one from the earth on the battery to the motor & one from the motor to the strut tower, certainly worth the $25ish it will cost to give it a try.

When the issue happens, electronics all stay powered, no noticeable loss in electronic power.

Use Upper Engine Cleaner often most services.

Just bought some fresh Motul 10w40, Oil Filter, new brake pads.

Subaru's are renown for bad engine earthing, everything seems fine but the sensors and ignition system can have fluctuating voltages through a high -ve resistance path to earth.

The engine is earthed to the chassis by one wee little spade terminaled wire from the g/box to the firewall.

Run a couple of extra earth cables from the inlet manifold back to the - ve battery terminal and see if that helps.

I run 3 cables on all my subies: 1 from the alternator bracket and two from the inlet manifold (opposite sides) back to the battery earth. I use ofc copper cable around 6 mm in diameter.

It may also pay to clean the battery to chassis earth (8 or 10mm bolt infront of battery on most rex's), just follow the shortest negative battery lead to find it.

You wouldn't notice a 1-2 volt drop as everything 'appears' A o.k.

Thanks Ross, will get ASG onto that.

Anyone know how much 4 brand new coil packs are?
